About the home
Bwthyn Gwyr is a 3 bedroom self-catering cottage in the quiet village of Southgate on the Gower Peninsula. The cottage is located just a stone's throw from Pennard Golf Club and less than 5 minutes walk from the coast and some of the most spectacular scenery in Wales. If that's not enough, you can also get access to a private swimming pool, located opposite the cottage.
The sunny lounge includes a 3 piece suite and patio window to garden, gas fire, flat TV, DVD, movies and board games.
The kitchen / diner offers luxury fitted units, ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, iron, utensils and crockery for six. The dining table has 6 chairs.
There is a king-sized bed in the double bedroom with a rustic wardrobe and bedside tables. Both the twin room and the single room are also furnished with wardrobes and bedside tables. All the bedrooms include luxury mattresses, Pristine duvets, linen and towels.
The modern white suite bathroom has bath with power shower, heated towel rail, shaver point, down-lighters, full tiling and ceramic floor.

- A private pool is located opposite the cottage (available June - mid September). Use of the pool is not a formal part of the rental contract but guests may be permitted to use the pool by arrangement and subject to the owners' strict house rules which are necessary to ensure that NO accidents occur. In particular, minors are not permitted to use the pool unless a parent is in attendance at all times to ensure sensible and safe behaviour.
The South Wales / Swansea/Bridgend/Neath region
The South Wales region includes a wide range of variety and destinations. From Cardiff, the proud capital city of Wales to the countryside and amazing coastline of the Vale of Glamorgan and the Gower Peninsula. The region also includes Afan Forest Park and borders with Brecon Beacons National Park to the north.
The Gower area
The self-catering cottage is located within curtilage of the farm and village of Southgate. It has gated private road access and is 200 meters from Pennard Golf Club. Only a half a mile away is the stunning Three Cliffs Bay. In 2006, The Gower celebrated its 50th Anniversary as Britain's first designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. The 19-mile long Peninsula comprises of some of Wales’ cleanest and most stunning beaches, including Rhossili, where you can enjoy the most spectacular view of the famous Worm’s Head and Llangennith Beach that is recognised as one of the premier surf beaches in the UK.
The cottage takes its name from James Grove, a historic ruin in the centre of Great Southgate Farm, originally housing priests of the Knights’ Templar in medieval times. It is an ideal location for walking and enjoying the spectacular coastal scenery.
Good footpath routes lead from the cottage to wooded valleys, heather moors, cliff walks and sandy beaches. To the West of the cottage a footpath on the boundary of the farm leads to Pobbles and Three Cliffs Bay. From there, at low tide, five miles of sand are exposed to Oxwich Bay. Paths then lead to Port Eynon and Paviland Caves (Site of one of the earliest known human burial remains in the UK: Thought to be more than 25,000 years old.) Inland walks from the cottage cross the golf course by public footpath and lead to the ancient ruins of Pennard Castle. Other activities to enjoy in the area include golf, exploring the bays and pony trekking.
The are also plenty of indoor activities nearby including the new £32m Leisure Centre (LC2) in Swansea offering swimming, water park entertainment and first class sports facilities. Swansea City centre also has an enviable choice of restaurants providing a choice of many cuisines and shopping facilities to equal any major city. The City also boasts free access to maritime and industrial museums and art galleries. On the outskirts of the city are delightful parks and miles of countryside and seaside promenade walks.

Wales is easily reached from the London airports whether you travel by train, car or bus. If you rent a car, you can get from London to South Wales in only two to three hours. By train it’s even quicker, just two hours from London to Cardiff. If you prefer to travel by bus, National Express coach services travel direct to both South Wales and North Wales.
