The Midi-Pyrenees / Lot region
The Midi-Pyrenees is France's largest region bordering Spain in the south, Languedoc Roussillon in the east and Aquitaine to the west stretching up to the Dordogne in the north. The climate varies, however in the Lot you can expect short cold winters, a warm spring and autumn and hot summers. Even in the winter you still have the odd shorts and t-shirt day.
The department boasts many ancient and picturesque towns and villages including Rocamadour, St Cirq-Lapopie and Cahors (the principal town of the Lot), all within an easy drive. In the southern half of the Lot are the Causses, rocky plateaux and hills full of caves, hot and dry with little cultivation. Further south are the plains of the Lot valley covered with the vines of Cahors.
Gourdon / Degagnac area
The local town Gourdon, 15 min drive away, is a lively and attractive medieval town with many cafes and bars and a regular thriving market. It is an ideal base to explore the Bourian a beautiful area of woods and valleys merging into neighbouring Perigord - an ideal place to wander.
During the summer there are numerous fetes and festivals in local towns and villages.
Chaude is located in walking/cycling distance of Landes du Frau, a forest with two lakes and lovely walks.
