The Midi-Pyrenees region

The landscape of the Lot-et-Garonne department is similar in appearance to the Dordogne department, - a mix of wooded slopes, forests and rolling fields, quiet roads passing through very lovely countryside-

The landscape is also one of traditional agriculture and small scale farming, empty roads through fields of sunflowers, and quiet market towns. Fruit trees, especially plum trees for the delicious pruneaux d'Agen, are also abundant.

The area is famous for its Castles and caves

GOURDON lies between Sarlat and Cahors, conveniently served by the Brive–Toulouse train line, and makes a quiet, pleasant base for visiting some of the major places in this part of the Dordogne and Lot. It's 17km south of the River Dordogne and pretty much at the eastern limit of the woods and valleys of Périgord, which give way quite suddenly, at the line of the N20, to the arid limestone landscape of the Causse de Gramat.

Gourdon is a beautiful hilltop town with its medieval centre of yellow-stone houses neatly ringed by modern boulevards containing all the shops and facilities holiday makers expect..

"My teenage boys and little girl all said it was one of the best holidays ever; so relaxing and comfortable!"

The house was uttterly delightful and exactly as pictured on the website. The double beds are a little small so if couples are on the larger side, they may be a bit cosy! The only downside at first was the fact that it was next to a saw mill and a building site which were not entirely apparent at first (and is most likely no longer a building site). After the initial surprise of being woken up by noises from both sides, we got used to it and in fact it didn't detract from our enjoyment in the end. The house was spotless and the pool equally so. The fencing around the pool was a bit unattractive and a shame for us as our kids are older, but I gather it is French law. The instructions to find the place are not terribly clear if you are not driving from the airport so make sure you speak to the owners first. Other than these few points, we had an abstolutely fantastic time. The house was fully equipped with everything needed to relax and enjoy a very chilled holiday.

"Tastefully updated property in a peaceful and scenic setting"

This is an attractive property that is centrally located, making it convenient to tour the Dordogne and Lot river valleys. It is located in a small, quiet village in a scenic area. There is a lot of space for gathering together both inside and outside, and the pool area is lovely. It is a better layout for families than for groups of adults because the second bathroom is en suite.

"Very up together - warm pool - loved it"

Generally we all loved this place and we would love to go back again.
Everything here was in good order and we found the house and pool properly clean when we arrived, and extra bonus points for having a fab gas BBQ, an espresso machine and two dishwashers!
There's no TV which may be good to know if you have kids and not much in the way of games and toys. On the down side, although the village is very quiet people can see in over the gate so if you're after TOTAL privacy this is not suitable. Music system was not great. No landline phone or internet. Nearest bakery is a car journey approx 2-3km - everything else not too far.

Lovely peaceful location, wonderful house with everything you could need.
A car is a must because of its location as it is in a hamlet with no shops, bars or restaurants but the benefits far outweigh any inconvenience.
The owner was very helpful even though he was in another country :)
We were a mixed group of adults and teenagers and everyone of us loved the house and pool.
