The Brittany / Finistere region

The house is situated in the hamlet of Keriok in the region of Finistere, in the West of Brittany. It is a few miles away from the market town of Pleyben and near the Parc Regional D’Armorique. The landscape is reminiscent of Cornwall and Devon with gently rolling hills with forests, interspersed with Dartmoor like moorland.
The coastline is like Cornwall and has wonderful sandy beaches, great rock pools and some rugged dramatic rocky sections. There are nice fishing villages dotted around the coast. Quimper is 20 minutes away to the South, Brest is about 30 minutes away to the Northwest and Chateaulin is about 10 minutes West.
Weather: In general the weather is dryer and warmer than the English South Coast and is often much better.
The Gouezec / Pleyben area
Beaches: There are a number of nearby beaches: Pentrez, Douarnenez within 30 minutes, Benodet, Fouesnant or Crozon within 40 minutes, South Coast beaches within 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Shopping: There is ample local shopping at Cloitre Pleyben and at Pleyben where there are all the local shops you would expect in a small French town plus a Lidl and an Intermarche supermarket. For more choice there is great shopping in Quimper, Brest and Chateaulin.
Eating Out : Pleyben has a selection of restaurants and bars, many family run. They all have good food and are reasonably priced. You can also find more in Chateaulin, Quimper, Brest and most small villages near the coast have good seafood.

Guestbook for 100 year old House in Keriok
Hi Sue,
yes we had a great holiday. The house is excellent and the location is lovely. I don't think the kids have ever been so close to nature with corn and wheat growing all around, grasshopper, bats everywhere. They went to mass in Pleyben church and to fest noz beneath the stars in Spezet and Cloiste de Pleyben, played with Daniel's kids up the way, a picked kilos of blackberries and elderberries from the hedgerows. They had a whale of a time.
Thanks to Kim for setting the house up so well, all the sleeping arrangements were great and the bread, butter and jam were very welcome on arrival. The games were really appreciated.
You have a great house there and I hope you venture goes well.
Many thanks and best wishes
Patrick
