House | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Gornja Radgona is situated in the eastern province of Slovenia called Pomurska and is on the border with Austria separated by the Mura River. The region is famous for its' history, castles, thermal spa baths, and grape growing. This house is one of our family homes and is situated on a hill 500m from Grad Radgona (Castle). Below the hill is the regional rural town Gornja Radgona famous for the Radgonske Gorice traditional champagne style wines, and across the bridge is is the old part of the city Bad Radkersburg, now part of Austria.
The region is excellent for many activities including walking, biking, swimming, wine and food tasting, and in winter skiing. It is close to the cities of Maribor (SLO) and Graz (A) and within half a days journey to Ljubljana, Vienna, Croatian Coast, Budapest, and Venice.
The house provides very comfortable accommodation, including a large balcony with lovely views over Austria, Hungary and Southern Slovenia. The kitchen includes a full oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher. There are two bathrooms, bathroom 1 with toilet and shower, upstairs for bedroom 1 and 2, and another downstairs for bedroom 3.

The Prekmurje/Pomurska region
Prekmurje/Pomuska is a region named and dominated by the Mura River. It winds its way from Austria, passing through Graz and then Slovenia. It's moisture and sediment adding to the fertile and green region of the country. The region is proud of it's nature, forests and farming share the land and the animal and bird life thrive.
Tourism to the area is attracted by the thermal spas nearby in Bad Radkersburg over the river, or in Slovenia Radenci, Terme 3000 in Moravske Toplice, Lendava, or Banovci. There are plenty of castles including the neighbour Grad Radgona, Grad in Goricko (Grad), Muska Sobota Castle, Negova Castle, and Lendave Castle. Many churches in the region are also of interest.
Wine tours to the cellars at the bottom of the hill, or a short drive to Kapela, Jeruzalem, or Lendava will introduce you to the local varieties of chardonnay, siphon, traminec, modri pinot, riesling, muskat. Wine has been made in Slovenia for over 2400 years.
If you are a beer drinker the local beer is Lasko or Union, but across the border in Austria a local Radgona man is making a beer that won him international awards. Check out www.bevog.at Just 15 minutes to find him on the outskirts of Bad Radkersburg.
The area is rich is culture and crafts including pottery, linen making, basket making, wooden products and you can still find flour milling done by the power of the Mura River.
Local Restaurant and country restaurants (Gostilna) serve foods seasonal to the region. Pork, fish and chicken are popular traditional meats, along with a variety of cold meats and Slovenia's famous prosciutto. Ljutomer is famous for it's cheese, including Emmental style. Plenty of vegetables including the best tomatoes I have eaten. Desserts are usually cakes made with fresh cheese, walnuts or poppy seeds.
