About the home
Highcliffe House is an upmarket guest house, owned and managed by Jane & Jim Yeomans who have travelled extensively. It is ideally located on the mountainside overlooking Gordon's Bay, with breathtaking sea views across False Bay to Table Mountain and round to the mountains of the Helderberg. Gordon's Bay, known by many as the jewel of the Western Cape, has recently been designated as the start of the Whale Coast Route, further enhancing its claim as the number one base for visiting all of the attractions of the Western Cape, without big city hustle and bustle, and pricing !
We offer three unique self-contained apartments; the 1 bedroom Merlot and Pinotage Suites, and the 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom Riesling Suite. Each suite is spacious, and stylishly furnished to a very high standard, with double en-suite bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and comfortable lounges. Each suite has a private entrance with direct access from safe private parking, and has either a private balcony, patio or garden, each with individual barbecue facilities and patio furniture for al fresco dining. Each suite has air conditioning, ceiling fans, satellite TV, DVD/CD player and WiFi internet access, as well as many extra luxuries to ensure a comfortable and relaxing holiday.
There are private golf lockers for each suite - Highcliffe House Suites are very popular with golfers as there are 5 championship golf courses within 30 minutes drive. The historic Cape Winelands of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek are all within an hour's drive, while the start of the Helderberg Wine Route, with almost 50 top wine estates, is less than 10 minutes away. Central Cape Town is just 45 minutes, and we are only 25 minutes from Cape Town International Airport.

Highcliffe House luxurious Suites offer the ultimate in self-catering accommodation, with quality decor throughout and particular attention to detail.
The 100 sq m. Merlot Suite, often booked by honeymoon couples, has a large bedroom with kingsize bed (which can also be made into twin beds), air conditioning/heating, and a full en-suite bathroom with corner bath and separate shower. The modern cherrywood kitchen is fully equipped, has modern appliances and a bar counter with 2 stools, as well as a dining area for 4. The comfortable lounge has a log fireplace, and opens onto a balcony with built-in gas barbecue - a lovely place to sit with a glass of delicious local wine enjoying the magnificent sunsets over the Bay. The apartment is located on the upper level to maximise the spectacular sea and mountain views, and has a private entrance with direct access (no stairs) from secure parking behind electronic gates, so guests can come & go as they please.
All of our suites have ceiling fans and/or airconditioning, satellite TV, DVD/CD players, hi-fi systems, personal safes, hair dryers, radio alarm clocks,quality toiletries, percale cotton lines, extra blankets and many extra luxuries to ensure a comfortable and relaxing holiday
The suites are fully serviced on weekdays, clean towels are provided daily (including beach towels) and bed linen is changed twice weekly. We also offer a deluxe laundry service.
We provide tea, coffee, sugar, milk, sparkling water and condiments on arrival, and can provide breakfast baskets on request.

Highcliffe House is a superior guest house located on the mountainside in a very quiet, yet well lit area of Gordon's Bay. All guests have safe private parking (including spaces for a trailer). The very attractive gardens are well maintained and attract a wide variety of birdlife. Guests can enjoy their own patio, balcony or garden of whichever apartment they are in, and use the heated pool, terrace and garden with other guests - a maximum of 8 at any one time. There are sun loungers, chairs, umbrellas and a large awning on the terraace, as well as a large patio table and 8 chairs which guests are also welcome to use, should they so wish. There is also an indoor gas barbecue, which guests can also use on windier days. All areas are well lit and easily accessible. the whole property is fenced and secure.

* Cancellation : If cancelled 30 days or more before due date, an admin fee of 10% of deposit will be charged and the balance of the deposit refunded. If cancelled between 21 & 30 days before due date, 50% of rate agreed for the period of the booking will be charged. If cancelled within 20 days of due date, or a 'no-show', the total price of the whole reservation will be charged and become payable to Highcliffe House. The owners of Highcliffe House will waive or amend the above cancellation fees should they receive replacement bookings.

The Western Cape region
Known as 'The Mother City', Cape Town, capital of the Western Cape, is one of the most spectacularly beautiful cities in the world and voted one of the top three cities in the world to visit. The climate is mild with temperatures rising to over 35 degrees in Summer and very little rain. Winter is the rainy season, and temperatures can drop to below 10 degrees with a midday average of 14 degrees. However the period between May and November is ideal for those who seek to explore the Western Cape and its many attractions with most days where the weather is a pleasure.
The City of Cape Town sits to the north of the Cape Peninsula, a 60 km long peninsula with the Atlantic to the West and the warmer waters of False Bay to the East. In between lie Table Mountain, the rugged buttresses of the Twelve Apostles, and the Silvermine. The natural beauty of beaches, mountains and valleys, coupled with the warm climate means there are plenty of outdoor activities.
Table Mountain, now recognised as one of the New7Wonders of Nature, is first on most visitors' list and the cable car runs daily, weather permitting. The V&W waterfront is also one of the main attractions of the City. There are shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas, markets, an aquarium and boat trips, including trips to Robben Island. Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are recognised as one of the great botanical gardens of the world with floral displays all year round. Outdoor concerts are held in the gardens in the Summer. The Hop-on Hop-off Bus is a great way to view the City at leisure, and there are many top quality restaurants to enjoy the wonderful Cape Malay food which is unique to the Western Cape.
The Gordon's Bay area
Gordon's Bay is a picturesque coastal village, often called the 'jewel of the Western Cape' and still one of the best kept secrets in the area. With safe sandy white beaches, including the Blue Flag Bikini Beach, two harbours on False Bay, Gordon's Bay is also a boating and fisherman's paradise.
This quaint seaside village has bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, a 9 hole golfcourse right in the village, bowls, horse riding as well as a number of hiking trails and walking routes. It is the start of the famous 'Whale Coast Route' which follows the spectacular Faure Marine Drive round the coast to Hermanus, and in July to December the Southern Right whales can be seen in False Bay, along with dolphins and sharks - shark cage diving is available nearby, and there are a colony of penguins at Betty's Bay, just along the coast. There is also MonkeyTown - a fascinating Primate Centre and ideal for children, and Blue Rock Cable Waterski is a great centre for all ages, offering very safe cable water skiing, fishing, diving and other activities.
Located just 45 km from the centre of Cape Town, 25 km from Cape Town International Airport, Gordon's Bay is the ideal location for exploring all of the Western Cape from Cape Point to Hermanus and beyond.
There are 5 championship golf courses all within 15 minutes drive, and the historic Cape Winelands of the Helderberg, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek start just 10km away offering superb wine tasting and gourmet restaurants. The Helderberg Wine route actually starts in Gordon's Bay. There is also a large shopping mall nearby with upmarket shops, cinemas and coffee shops.
With its beautiful scenery, fantastic sunsets, wonderful birdlife and plethora of water sports, Gordon's Bay is the perfect holiday venue - away from the city rush, providing visitors with a tranquil holiday in beautiful peaceful surroundings.

From Cape Town International airport, follow the N2 motorway towards Somerset West.. Continue along the N2 past the Somerset Mall shopping centre on the right, Somerset West on the left and through Strand (approx. 20 kms). Just before Sir Lowry's Pass, turn right at the traffic light, signposted to Gordon's Bay and Klienmont (R44). Continue along this road (Sir Lowry's Pass road) until just BEFORE the T-Junction at the end, and turn left into Boundary Road (also called Grens Weg). If you are on the road that goes up a hill and turns right with the sea on the right, you have missed the turning to Boundary Road, and are heading to Rooi Els. You will need to turn round at the first opportunity and go back and turn into Boundary Road. Drive up the hill - Boundary Road bears to the left, and Highcliffe House is located just over the top on the left hand side, No. 65 at the corner of Bulbine Street.

We stayed in the Merlot Suite for 6 nights at the start of our 4 week South African holiday. The apartment was very comfortable, had everything we needed and our hosts were very friendly and helpful. This was our base for exploring The Cape, Capetown, the wine area and the whale coast - we came at this time to make sure we saw the whales at Hermanus & we did - a truly amazing experience from the beach restaurant recommended by Jane & Jim. A great location & excellent start to our holiday. |
