The Sardinia region
Sardinia is the second largest island situated in the heart of Mediterranean. It has a wild and untouched beauty where mountains and the sea blend together with a translucent azure colours and fascinating rock formations to give the observer an unforgettable experience.
From a climatic point of view Sardinia enjoys a warm and long summer (usually from May to October) and the winter is not known to be harsh with the temperature rarely dipping below zero.
South West Sardinia is a picturesque place that preserves the wildness of scantly known areas where there are still magnificent treasures of extraordnary beauty.
The region has many UNESCO protected sites from historically preserved areas , monuments of archaeological interest, including the mining heritage.
In this area nature reigns sovereign; here trekking, mountain biking and rock climbing lovers can find a wide variety of choice between paths and tracks: from the Massif of Marganai to the forest of Pantaleo and Punta Pilocca, one of the best cliffs suitable for climbing on the island.
Gonnesa is a small town in the South Western coast of Sardinia, it is central to Iglesias and Carbonia, close to Portoscuso, San Pietro and Sant'Antioco Islands. Gonnesa is a typical agricultural town and has its past linked to its history of mining. Visit the deserted mining villages such as Monte Onixeddu and Seddas Moddizzis and observe the close ties between town, the community and mining of a bygone era.
Gonnesa has a rich palette of colours, the long sandy shoreline is composed of three main beaches; Fontanamare, Plage e mesu and Porto Paglia. Many watersports are available in this area to include: surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and fishing
The sandy coastline is overlooked by the characteristic Spanish tower, appearing giving the illusion of breaking through the surface of the sea offers an impressive show.
Many are also areas with high historic value. Territory between Gonnesa and its outlying hamlet Nuraxi Figus is studded with holy wells, Giants tombs, Domus de Janas (Witches houses) and obviously Nuraghes among stands out Nuraghe Seruci.
