Pekes - Mounts View
About the home
MOUNTS VIEW is a stunning cottage in the grounds of our Tudor manor house situated at the end of our driveway approximately 400 yards (365 mtrs) from the road, this makes it secluded and safe. Mounts View is an eco friendly house with full insulation and double glazing. It has solar panels to heat the hot water and a state of the art septic tank that discharges only clean water! The cottage has 5 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, good kitchen and exceptional sitting room with dining alcove and brilliant views.
It was built in 1934 as a cowshed for my father’s prize herd of pedigree Guernsey cows.
All had names beginning with “P” so they were called Pekes Pansy or Pekes Primrose etc. The only real item remaining from this era is the Guernsey cow weather vane on top of the cottage. I have also found a photograph of the Guernsey cows in their cowshed, which you can see on the window sill in the sitting room.
The view from the very large terrace (20 metres by 4 metres wide) outside Mounts View is quite exceptional – you see a large field called "the Mounts" after which the cottage is named, and beyond that eight miles of splendid countryside. There are flower beds and garden furniture on the terrace.
Mounts View has a safely fenced garden, which makes it safe for children and pets, and also has an attractive summerhouse in the garden. The whole estate comprises twenty eight acres and visitors to Mounts View have use of the area immediately surrounding it. They also have use of our hard tennis court, indoor heated swimming pool, sauna/jacuzzi, a badminton court.
Cedar wood, state of the art all weather barrel sauna is situated on the terrace with easy access to the house. It seats six people and can be used for dry heat or with water over the coals for steam heat".
Mounts View is well furnished with fitted carpets throughout and attractive curtains. The sitting room has a wood burning stove, a dining alcove with hatch to the kitchen seating six to eight and the stunning view of the Mounts field and countryside. The kitchen has fitted units, all necessary machines and a breakfast alcove with table and seats for six people. The central heating and hot water are provided by solar power and the oil-fired boiler, cooking and lighting is by electricity.
