The Queensland / Brisbane and Moreton region

The Gold Coast is a city located in the southeast corner of Queensland, approx 1 hour drive south of Brisbane. With 57 kms of coastline offering golden sands and fantastic surf beaches, it is considered Australia's premier holiday playground. Gold Coast City is renowned for its sunny subtropical climate, popular surfing beaches, expansive waterway and canal systems, a skyline dominated by high-rise apartment buildings, a peaceful rainforest hinterland in the west of the city, active nightlife, fantastic shopping and its wide variety of tourist attractions and golf courses! The Gold Coast enjoys a perfect climate, with average temperatures ranging between 28C (Summer Dec-Mar) to a balmy 20C (Winter Jun-Aug) and is a year-round holiday destination. Good motorway access to Brisbane city and easy airport access to both Brisbane international and Coolangatta domestic airports.
The Gold Coast / Labrador area
Labrador is located on the northern stretch of the Gold Coast with close proximity to Southport CBD and is central to everything. The suburb consists of residential homes as well as many serviced and self-contained apartments, hotels & motels, a popular waterfront tourist park and a wide selection of restaurants. Labrador overlooks the scenic Southport Broadwater.... a haven for boating and water sports enthusiasts with its still, shallow waters. The foreshore is just a short stroll down the street and offers pleasant and peaceful walking tracks and the wide variety of restaurants along Marine Parade have helped the suburb evolve into a trendy area known for its waterfront dining.
From parks to the Broadwater, Labrador is a haven for those who love the outdoors. Aquatic sports are a drawcard for the area and are popular not only for those participating, but also for tourists and locals who enjoy being spectators. Wind surfing, fishing and parasailing are popular activities on the Broadwater. Charis Seafoods (best fish shop on the coast!), located on the Broadwater across the road from the Grand Hotel, has always drawn crowds witnessing the daily feeding of the pelicans. Families with small children crowd to the Broadwater for fun in the sun and to play in shallow still waters.
Beaches
The nearby Broadwater is a popular swimming area with calm water, several small sandy beaches and children's' playgrounds. The nearest surf beach is at Main Beach...approx 10 minutes drive south.
Attractions & Sporting Activities
The Gold Coast's most popular theme parks are within an easy 15 minutes drive. Sea World at Main Beach offers a wide range of marine-themed shows, attractions and rides and is a fun day for the whole family. Become a star for a day at Warner Bros Movie World where you can experience the magic and excitement of Hollywood or for splashtacular fun you can't go past Wet'n'Wild Water World or Whitewater World, Australia's biggest and best water theme parks. For evening entertainment we recommend a visit to the Australian Outback Spectacular - a unique and exciting evening dinner show capturing the grandeur of the Australian Outback!
Golf - The Gold Coast is a golfer's paradise and there are about 20 courses (open to the public) within 30 minutes drive. The nearest (Parkwood International) is only 5 minutes away, however Robina Woods, The Glades, Royal Pines, Hope Island and Lakelands are superb courses that will challenge even the most serious golfer. Green fees are very reasonable (compared with Europe!) and often include cart rental. Early morning (from 6am) tee-off times are the most popular.
Boating/Fishing & All Aquatic Sports - readily available along the Broadwater
Shopping
Labrador has no shortage of shopping with local shops, large supermarkets and shopping centres all within an easy 5 minutes drive! Chirn Park (1km away) is the local shopping village with bakery, post office, small grocery shops, chemist, butcher, newsagent etc. as well as several small cafes and restaurants. Labrador Park located along the main Brisbane Road has the nearest Coles Supermarket. Larger shopping centres are easily accessible with Harbour Town Shopping Centre in Biggera Waters and Australia Fair Shopping Centre in Southport, only 5 minutes away. Harbour Town is great for fashion and is a centre for Discount Outlet stores. It also has a large Woolworths supermarket, butcher, bakery, Asian grocery shop and a fantastic Fruit & Veg shop. Australia Fair has both fashion and food outlets. There are several weekend markets within easy driving distance from Labrador.
Cinema
Australia Fair & Harbour Town Shopping Centres have multiple movie theatres.

this house was great for a family of six such as ours, with two primary age kids and two teenagers. there is plenty of space to spread out, a lovely verandah for getting out of the sun or having your morning coffee, and a wonderful pool which we used a lot. the kitchen was very well equipped with every possible utensil, and high quality appliances throughout. it was lovely hearing all the birds first thing in the morning, and it was a nice quiet place to return to after a hectic crowded day at the theme parks! would throroughly recommend this house to anyone; it really helped make our holiday special. |

The house is at the top of a very steep but relatively short hill. This gives wonderful views on three sides of the property but does exclude the elderly or less able members of your party to go out to walk anywhere. A car really is a must so you can get to the nice beaches (about 10-15 minutes away) and visit Sea World and all the theme parks (a must with teenagers and a Mum determined to do everything whilst on holiday). The house really felt like a home from home and dealing with the owners was a pleasure from start to finish. The rooms suited us perfectly with our less able member using the ground floor room which has a shower and toilet room included. The dark wooden flooring throughout the majority of the first floor was lovely and the added luxury of the little lights on the side of the five steps meant that there was sufficient light all night for anyone needing to get out of bed. It was the little touches that made it special and if we ever visit the Gold Coast area again, then I would pick this place again as it is so nice and clean and you feel at home immediately. Something I appreciated after 21 hours flight time in two days! |
