The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The town of gocek is considered to be exclusive and is traditionally favoured mostly by yachting people.
The main beauty of Gocek is that it is unspoilt with beautiful views of the mountains and sea. There are excellent sailing opportunities and the surrounding area has many archaeological places of interest, including the Roman city ruins of kaunos and the Lycian tombes built into the mountain faces. The pine forests surrounding Gocek are environmentally protected, providing a beautiful natural setting. The town of Gocek is pedestrianised and is excellent for walking or cycling. The waterfront marina hosts many yachts and boats and the long esplanade, which stretches along the entire bay, makes an excellent place for walking without being too far from a cafe, bar or restaurant.
Gocek area
One of the many pleasures of Gocek are the many Turkish restaurants along the pedestriannised waterfront., where you can sit outside and watch the sunset over the mountains and Gocek bay. The town comes alive in the evening with all the quaint little shops open and cafes and the jazz bars.
You can easily enjoy a 2 week holiday without having to hire a car. 150m from Villa Ruya you can catch the road train to Inlice Plaja, Gocek's unspoilt beach. This service runs 3 times a day and is very cheap. the beach has a cafe, a restaurant nearby, showers and sun loungers.
You can also catch the Dolmus minibus service to Fethiye. This stops 150m from the villa and runs every half hour in the summer.
Only 45 mins away is Dalyan and the protected turtle beaches. Here you can go on a boat trip and visit the natural hot springs and experience the mud baths. The boat also stops at the ancient city of kaunos where you can visit the well preserved Roman buildings.
many guests enjoy coming to Gocek to explore the 12 islands off Gocek Bay, go sailing or scuba diving. Oludeniz is only a 50 minute drive away and offers para sailing and other more adventurous water sports.

Further details indoors: The villa is tastefully furnished with 'antique' furniture but with all the comforts of home. On arrival guests will find a welcome pack to start their holiday with breakfast provisions for the first morning.
The design of the villa enables the house to stay cool in the hot summer and also for the heat to rise from the fire in winter time. This is due to the high ceiling in the lounge, created by the 'gothic' stonework towers. The large stone fireplace, cast iron chandeliers, open first floor gallery overlooking the lounge, all contribute to the impression of living in a mini castle, but with all the advantages of modern living.
The first floor comprises of one large double bedroom with panoramic mountain views and sea views, one smaller double bedroom and one single bedroom. There is a family bathroom complete with shower and a jacuzzi. There is a private balcony leading off the larger double bedroom.
The spiral staircase then continues upwards to the second floor where the master bedroom with ensuite shower and WC is located. This large room has a kingsize double bed and also two single beds making it suitable for a family to stay in this room. There is a private balcony and superb views of the sea, forest and mountains.
Further details outdoors: The garden has a grass area and a variety of trees and shrubs including two orange trees and a banana tree. The private pool is in the lower part of the garden and can be 'shut off' from the rest of the garden if children are playing in the garden.
The pool is 1.5m deep and is maintained daily. There are sun loungers, sun canopys and other outdoor furniture located at the poolside. Whilst sunbathing or swimming in the pool, you can also enjoy the breath taking forest and mountain views.
The villa is semi detached but the other side is privately owned and not let, only occupied for 1 -2 weeks a year in the off season by the couple who own it. The villa is not overlooked & not on a complex.
The large ground terrace balcony provides a comfortable dining area or a place to just sit and relax whilst watching the sun set on the mountains.

"The property was exactly as described. It was of a high standard. The pool was kept in excellent order by a very good pool man who was always helpful. Hiliary was there to welcome us and answer any questions we had. Gocek was lovely although not the ideal place if you are looking for a beach holiday (which we were not). Thoughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Ruya, certainly one of the best Villas we have booked."

"All has been said in previous reviews, the villa was excellent and the pool fantastic! Welcome pack and groceries very helpful. Jane the owner was very helpful prior to our holiday sourcing transfers and car hire. Villa is in a very peaceful area - pleasant but slightly uneven walk into Gocek which is a wonderful relaxed town with excellent restaurants. Freak heatwave in June meant a water shortage which was a bit of a pain but did not detract from a fantastic holiday and gave us an excuse to try the local hamam!"

"A lovely semi-detached villa in a secluded location. The layout of the villa is good and the air conditioning in the bedrooms is a god-send. We ate out doors every evening and saw very few mosquitoes at all. The villa was clean and tidy and well equipped. The pool was attended to every day by an absolute gent! The location would probably not suit beach lovers but the town of Gocek is a delight and the marina is wonderful. There are some great restaurants and the locals are very friendly. The market was very good also. The walk down to the town was very nice (in the evening! very hot during the day!) and a taxi back was about £2. Help was close at hand if required from Hilary and there were plentiful instructions, directions and tourist guides provided in the villa. A great holiday!"
