About this location
The Perth and Kinross region
Perthshire, in the centre of mainland Scotland, is known as the 'Big County' not only because of its physical area but because of the diversity of towns and countryside to be found there.
Steeped in history, the Romans, Picts and Celts and many of the main players in Scottish History all contributed to the creation of present day Perthshire. Pontius Pilot, Macbeth, William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots, John Know, Montrose, Rob Roy Macgregor, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Robert Burns - a whose who of Scottish history.
Perthshire straddles the Highlands and lowlands offering a rich variety of scenery, walking, hill climbing and fishing. Fish the wide and graceful River Tay – Britain's biggest River. From it's source in serene Loch Tay with rolling mountain backdrop including the munros Ben Lawers and Schiehallion it flows east through Dunkeld and the compact city of Perth with its wealth of shops, attractions and history.
From the summit of Ben Lawers on a clear day you can see from the Atlantic to the North Sea. This beautiful area has been designated a National Nature Reserve in recognition of the unique range of arctic and alpine plants found on it's slopes.
Further south the mountains become heather clad moors and billowing hills as Perthshire descends to the fertile farmland stretching from Strathearn to Perth and up to Blairgowrie. This variety means there are walking routes to cater for all abilities.
Pond View Lodge and Duchally Country Estate is set in prime Perthshire parkland near to Gleneagles and is an ideal base for your holiday in Scotland.
While secluded, it is perfect for short breaks and is conveniently located for easy access to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands. Set in 27 acres of parkland and surrounded by some of the most spectacular and picturesque landscapes of Perthshire, Duchally Country Estate has won many Scottish Tourist Board awards for their levels of accommodation, dining excellence and green tourism and a warm and friendly welcome awaits guests ready to discover this fabulous region of Scotland.
Easily accessible by rail or car the beautifully manicured 850 acre resort of Gleneagles is 5 minutes away with its Queens, Kings and PGA Centenary Golf Courses as well as a number of other prestigious courses within easy driving distance of your lodge. Gleneagles is set to host the 40th Ryder Cup, the greatest tournament of match play golf, in September 2014.
The pretty town of Auchterarder with its specialist shops, restaurants and cafes is 5 minutes away whilst the ancient cities of Perth and Stirling are just 15 minutes away with their greater selection of shops, supermarkets, galleries, museums and locations of historic interest.
Explore the ancient county of Perth, its mountains, moors, rivers and castles then return to the comfort of your lodge at Duchally Country Estate.
