During the day, enjoy an comfortable read in front of the log fire contemplating from your panoramic window the shimmering waters of loch Poolteil and the ever changing light illuminating the mountains of Harris and North Uist.

In the evening, cuddle up in an old stone cottage in front of a roasting wood burning stove, a glass of single malt in hand and watching the sun set over the sea between the isle of Skye and the isle of Harris.

The cottage has been recently renovated to a really high standard. Its most wonderful double height living space with a spiral stair that leads to the gallery master bedroom; its large, panoramic gable window and all the other many windows letting the light in from every angle and the openness of its architecture, makes our guests feel part of this ever changing scenery.

The cottage has also stylish bathroom with underfloor heating and heated towel rail and a utility area very handy for all the outdoor gear. We also provide soft cotton bed linen and towels for you to have the best possible holiday.

It sits in a large wild garden with a small stream running through it, and we have some garden furniture for our guests to sit comfortably in the outdoors savouring the even further reaching view of the cliffs, the islands and the sea.

The cottage is located in one of the best areas of Skye to see wild life. The steep cliffs of Glendale are home to thousands of sea birds and this area is undoubtedly the best place on Skye for seeing whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking shark. Seals bask on the skerries in Loch Pooltiel at low tide. Otters can be seen fishing for sea urchins. Sea eagles, golden eagles, buzzards, merlins and kestrels all nest nearby.

Glendale is also renowned for its striking displays of wild flowers, with meadows carpeted with bluebells, orchids, violets and primroses.

If you wish to try some cooking yourself Skye finest products are available nearby at very reasonable prices. Buy fresh lobster or langoustines from the local fisherman at the pier at great prices or vegetabes, fresh produce, free range eggs from the friendly neighbours' boxes.

Night life

Skye's finest restaurant, the acclaimed Three Chimneys, is about 15 minute drive from our cottage. If you prefer you could organise a taxi to take you there and back. After a beautiful evening meal, you may like to take a night walk as the absence of light pollution makes Glendale an amazing place to watch the Night Sky, with the Milky Way clearly visible after dark and Shooting Stars streaking overhead.

During the Autumn and Spring nights, when conditions are right you may even be lucky to experience one of natures most awesome and rare events over Loch Poolteil the Aurora Borealis .

Diving & Shipwrecks

For those sho seek adventure, the crystal clear waters are excellent for diving and there are a number of well-preserved ship-wrecks nearby, on the ocean floor around the Duirinish Coast. These include the ss Chadwick which ran aground at the mouth of Oisgill Bay in 1892 and the ss Doris which crashed onto Neist Point in 1909.

Winter

Few tourists venture to the Isle of Skye in the Winter months but those that do get to experience Glendale in its magnificent, natural state. The roads are deserted and Skye's major tourist hot-spots, can be just yours. In the evening you can just return to our warm cottage, sit by the fire and read or enjoy one of our very varied selection.
