Cottage | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 10
Barralach is absolutely exceptional in that it consists of three habitable cottages let out as a single home. There are beds for up to 10 guests in three distinct cottages, providing an agreeable degree of independence. The main cottage includes the kitchen and large dining room, with a table that seats 14. This ancient settlement is unspoilt by modernity, although comfortable, and enjoys its stunning views in delightful mountain isolation, except for the sheep, hares and other wildlife. The housekeeper may be prepared to cook fine meals if requested.
We will provide you with a brochure identifying so many key attractions, in addition to golfing, hiking and fishing, such as the amazing big-sea Rossbeigh strand and the quieter beach at Dooks, the Dingle Dolphin, the once-in -a lifetime Skellig island monastery and bird reserve, the lakes of Killarney including Muckross National Park, horse riding and mountain biking, Kenmare, the Blarney Stone.

The "exterior facilities" are the immensity of Nature, with its sheep and wildlife. Beyond our own 10 acres, bordered by a mountain stream, are hundreds of acres of moorland through which you may roam at will or bike on the tracks.
The three cottages are rented out as a single home. Even if your group is really small, you will have the run of all cottages. A honeymoon couple will normally occupy only one cottage but has the choice. There is unlimited free firewood for the large log fire and closed stove. Electricity is charged at cost, as measured by the meter, which is available for all to read.
The County Kerry region
Kerry is famous for its mountains, lakes, history, and craic; for its golf, horses, fishing, dolphins and bird life; for its ever-changing light and unchanging hospitality.
The attractions of Glenbeigh are well presented in the community's website video www.glenbeigh.ie Key features are Rossbeigh strand, hill walking especially along the Kerry Way and horse riding including the Glenbeigh Races (generally in early September), and Dooks golf course. Caragh Lake rejoices in amazing beauty, boat fishing, Lickeen Fair in June, Puck Fair in Killorglin in August. We are only 45 minutes drive to the departure point of boats to the Skellig Islands, so justifiably a UNESCO world heritage site. The Skelligs are an historical, spiritual, ornithological and geological wonder.

"Truly spectacular setting and property"
Barralach was booked as a week long foray by London based mountaineering club, Ibex, to the mountains of Kerry. Once the rough track upwards had been negotiated, we were treated to quite awe inspiring… More
Thank you for this splendid review. Barralach has indeed enchanted groups of every persuasion, including hill walkers, golfers, fishermen, bridge players, artists, geologists and of course extended families with their children. The immense beauty of the place, it's history embedded in Ireland's past, the vast range of available activities, these ensure a superb experience for all.

"Amazing - beautiful- better then we could have ever expected!"
This magical place was the highlight of our Ireland trip. I am an artist who conducts art retreats all over thr US and Europe. As I began the search to bring my plein air art retreat to Ireland, I found the sheep farm and it sounded like everything we wanted. The description was intriguing, and the owner Peter was so sweet and accommodating.
When we arrived at this most beautiful setting we all stood, looked at the spectacular 360 degree view and we all cried. The view takes ones breath away. The farm is warm, cozy and welcoming. We immediately felt at home. Many wonderful paintings were done there and thousands of photographs for future references.
Peter's neighbor Betty was so sweet and cooked wonderful meals for us. Shawn our taxi driver was so funny, helpful, and a wonderful knowledgable tour guide who took us on a few excursions.
Our only regret is that we didn't stay there for a month. We can't wait to come back!
But please DO come back with another charming group. Shawn and Betty would love to see you again. And we could arrange for a caterer to come too if you would like.

"off the beaten track country escape"
Wow, what a view. We were very lucky with the weather during our stay, and every day could just sit up on the top of our mountain, with the sheep, and take in the vista. The cottages have been very … More
Thank you. It was a delight to welcome your group. Peter

Thank you. Barralach does indeed lend itself particularly well to large family get-togethers. The generous open fire, the very large dining table, and accommodation in three separate cottages provide the perfect environment.

"The Most AMAZING Setting"
Pictures do not make this charming place justice. The location is just so special, far and up enough the mountain to feel surrounded by nothing but nature, yet so convenient as the pub is only 10 mins drive away! We found the property well maintained and with nothing to fault.. this is paradise for nature lovers. Because the accommodation is split in three cottages we found it ideal to rent for a joint holiday with friends. We can't wait to go back next year!.
Thank you for this charming review.

"Awesome family holiday house"
My family and I spent a week at Barralach in September 2012, and what an awesome stay we had! The cottages have a spectacular location, far up the country roads in true mountainous beauty. Coming from Cape Town we are quite accustomed to beautiful surroundings, but the views from Barralach simply blew us away with more stunning scenery at every turn. Conveniently though, the cottages are only a few short minutes from the shops, pubs and beaches of Glenbeigh and Rossbeigh, and close to all the tourist attractions that the ring of kerry has to offer. We particularly liked the Kerry Bog Village Museum, and Burkes at Rossbeigh which had great horseback rides (kids included too), mini golf, and a big maze to get lost in.
The cottages are clean, comfortable and well equipped throughout (good kitchen equipment, warm and comfy bedding and wellies for our mountain walks). Peter, our host, was both friendly and helpful and we loved coming home at the end of the day to a delicious dinner prepared by Betty. There is plenty of information on the area provided, which helped us find our way round and learn about the history of Kerry. And when the weather didn't play along with our plans we played board games by the warm fire - Jenga being our family favorite. On waking in the morning we were delighted to find sheep and hares roaming around the lawn, and we developed a morning ritual of having a picnic breakfast on the rock table at the end of the garden - what a fabulous way to start the day!
My children really wanted to sleep in their own separate cottage, and initially i wasn't so sure, but I was relieved to find a baby monitor there that we used to keep a listening ear on them and so it worked out well. They loved exploring the mountain and having their adventures among the trees just behind the house.
I can really recommend Barralach for a wholesome healthy family holiday - We are certainly keen to return!
Thank you. We love welcoming families.
