Home description
Chapel Barn was built in the 1200’s and originally used as a place of worship. Since then, it has been lovingly converted to offer accommodation for 2. A perfectly romantic setting, the property retains exposed beams, old stonework and oak woodwork throughout. The accommodation is arranged in an ‘upside down’ fashion; the living room is upstairs, while the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen are on the ground floor.
The West Country / Somerset region
The home of traditional farmhouse cider, Somerset offers 3 areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown Hills. Lose yourself in the glory of nature, take a ride on a steam train, visit a traditional farmers’ market or explore your mystical side at Glastonbury. Don’t forget the great cathedral at Wells and the vibrant cities of Bristol and Bath.
Glastonbury / Compton Dundon area
Compton Dundon itself is a picturesque village, lying in one of the most attractive parts of Somerset, overlooked by the Polden Hills to the east and bordering King’s Sedge Moor. Just south of the village is a site of Special Scientific Interest; Great Breach and Copley Woods. This is a Nature Conservation Teview Woodland Site, that is owned and managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust. Many of the Yew trees in this wood are over 1,500 years old and the site also supports a specific type of rare insect. Just outside the village is Dundon Hill, the site of an Iron-Age hill-fort.
Dundon Beacon, which is almost part of the village itself, is so-named as it was where beacons used to be lit during periods of warfare. There are many interesting walks in the area, all revealing something of the region’s past; Compton’s parish church, for example, is built on the site of a prehistoric wood. Other attractions in the area include Wookey Hole – home of the famous Witch of Wookey, Cheddar Gorge and the city of Bath is a short drive away.
