Avalon Cottage
About the home
If you want a beautiful four star holiday cottage in Glastonbury, you will find that Avalon Cottage is a charming and very comfortable haven. Built in the fifteenth century and situated in Bove Town, it is conveniently situated just a short stroll from the High Street, Abbey Ruins and Glastonbury Tor. You can be sure of a self catering holiday in a perfectly relaxing environment and we promise that Avalon Cottage will exceed all of your expectations. If you're looking for value for money then you've found it because I think I'm right in saying that we are the only Glastonbury cottage offering three bedrooms and two bathrooms at this price. We have recently had our 2010/2011 visit from the assessor for ‘Quality In Tourism’ and he was very happy to confirm our four star status. He loved it – we could tell! But don't take our word for it, click on the photographs tab. If you are a lone traveller or a party of just two or three people, it may interest you to know that we also offer as a holiday let, our own little getaway - our apartment in Oriel Drive, Glastonbury - for a very reasonable rate. In fact it works out cheaper than B and B in most cases. Check out the website by going to the links tab and clicking on orieldriveglastonbury.
MODERN CONVENIENCES
The cottage is redecorated and refurbished every winter and you will find that all of the fixtures and furnishings are of a high standard and in keeping with Avalon's antique character. Read the visitor's book and you will see that people have commented on the comfy beds, the special atmosphere and the general relaxing cosiness of the cottage. (You can’t beat gas central heating.)
The kitchen is well fitted and equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and electric cooker. The cupboards are stocked with enough china and cookware to cook up a storm – six for Christmas dinner? No problem.
The living room has colour TV with Freeview and a DVD player. The furniture is big and comfortable and there are French windows opening onto the patio.
The elegant dining room enables you to enjoy your meals in a charming antique setting and you can connnect your laptop to the wifi broadband internet connection for free!
THREE BEDROOMS to sleep a miximum of five people and most people appreciate the comfort of the beds.
The master bedroom has a double bed and en suite shower room.
The second bedroom also has a double bed
The third bedroom is a single bed.
There is a family bathroom which has a bath with shower over and w.c.
OUTSIDE
The south facing patio garden is a great place to relax and is furnished with good quality table and chairs for eating out on those balmy summer days. Beside the patio there is private parking for one vehicle but further vehicles can park on the street in front. We are situated at the end of a terrace of four similar homes and behind us there are just three houses so the only people that use the lane beside the cottage are our nice neighbours. It’s a rare treat to be situated so close to the town and yet to still have peace and quiet.
FINALLY
We try to arrange our weekly lets at the cottage to start on a Saturday. Start days at the apartment are totally fexible.
Avalon Cottage has a very special atmosphere, people return to us again and again. There is something happy and calming about the place, everyone feels it and everyone seems to be completely at home there. I have to say that 'Party Animals' wouldn't enjoy the cottage and neither would my neighbours. Nowadays we have people ringing up and saying, ‘My friend/mother/boss stayed at your cottage and they’ve been raving about it ever since and I just have to come and stay there.’ It’s very flattering and very satisfying to know that we provide something which is so greatly appreciated.

Further details indoors:
Our guests have said that Avalon Cottage is not at all like a holiday let and much more like a stylish home - and so it is. We have paid attention to detail when furnishing and equipping the cottage and guests will find the standard of comfort and convenience they would expect in their own homes. As our property is 15th century we have strived to stay with a traditional and antique look but without losing the relaxing warmth of a modern home. Bedlinen is provided but please bring bath towels.
ACCESS STATEMENT
The cottage is approached at the front by a flight of several flagstones steps. From the rear the access is much easier, there is a slight incline up the lane to the rear door, guests are advised to enter and leave from the rear. Inside the cottage there is a step from the kitchen to the hall and level access from the hall to all ground floor rooms. We do not have a cloakroom or bathroom on the groundfloor. From the hall there is a flight of stairs to the first floor which comprises three bedrooms, bathroom and shower room. Parking is at the rear of the cottage about five metres from the rear door..
Further details outdoors:
There is a fenced rear patio garden which is very safe for children, is south facing and furnished with table and chairs. The private parking adjoins the cottage at the rear and as this is a very private area for just the few houses on the lane, there are no passers by.
Further details
Sorry, we no longer accept pets and the cottage is non smoking. Unfortunately the property is probably not suitable for people with severe physical disabilities as all of the bedrooms and bathrooms are via a staircase to the first floor.
Conditions
Avalon Cottage is very strictly non smoking.

The West Country / Somerset region

Glastonbury is a different and rather lively small town. It has rich traditions, a cosmopolitan community and a taste of tomorrow. It sits on the ancient Isle of Avalon in the Somerset Levels, with a backdrop of soft, green, rolling hills.
It has been a pilgrimage place for thousands of years. In the Middle Ages a great abbey was here - it was England's 'holyest earthe'.
It now hosts the famous Glastonbury Festival, pilgrimages, music, a carnival, several conferences and other events. People visit from the world over, seeking a certain special something....
Overlooking it all is Glastonbury Tor, a fascinating holy hill.
Tradition has it that Jesus visited and Joseph of Arimathaea built a church here, King Arthur and Guinevere were buried here and it was an ancient place of the Goddess. It was home to the medieval saints Patrick, Dunstan, Benedict, David and Bridget.
Today it is a unique, atmospheric town of nearly 10,000 people with a mixture of locals, incomers and spiritual seekers. For a hundred years it has been a mecca for 'cultural creatives' and an interfaith town.
Welcome to the Isle of Avalon!
The Glastonbury area
Wearyal Hill. Glastonbury Abbey. Chalice Well. A great variety of ancient and fascinating archtecture. Glastonbury is the centre of New Age philosophies in the UK and if you are interested in alternative therapies and non traditional spiritual things then this is the town for you. It is also one of the earliest seats of Christianity and the famous Glastonbury Pilgrimages bringsChristians from far afield.
Events are wide ranging and fascinating - The Goddess Conference. The Dance Festival. Glastonbury Festival. Children's World Festival. The Extravaganza Classical Music Festival and the list goes on and on

Just a quick email to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Avalon cottage. We really can't praise it highly enough. It's always a bit of a gamble booking from the internet but in this case we feel we hit the jackpot!
Third time of staying here and as usual we absolutely loved the cottage. Thanks for opening your home to us.
I was here last year and I loved it so much that I brought my family this year. Again your home has been a beautiful base for an amazing week. Extremely comfortable beds and a place I could quite easily call home. We got 'handfasted' whilst in Glastonbury and your home was perfect for preparing and then celebrating afterwards. A truly magical week.
