Home description

A SIMPLY SUPERB HOLIDAY HOME.

Avalon Cottage is a delightful and spacious fifteenth century cottage situated in Bove Town which is just a short stroll from the High Street, Abbey Ruins and Glastonbury Tor. If you’re looking for a home from home whilst you study on one of the many New Age courses the town has to offer or if you want the perfect relaxing holiday retreat then we can promise you that Avalon Cottage will exceed all of your expectations. We have recently had our 2008/2009 visit from the assessor for‘Quality In Tourism’ and he was very happy to confirm our four star status. He loved it – we could tell! But don't take our word for it, click on the photographs tab.

MODERN CONVENIENCES
The cottage has been completely refurbished and you will find that all of the fixtures and fittings are to the highest standard. Read the visitors book and you will see that people have commented on the comfortable beds, the special atmosphere and the general comfort and cosiness of the cottage. (You can’t beat gas central heating.)
The kitchen is well fitted and equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble drier and first class cooker. The cupboards are stocked with enough china and cookware to cook up a storm – six for Christmas dinner? No problem.
The living room has colour TV with freeview and a DVD player. The furniture is big and comfortable and there are French windows opening onto the patio.
The elegant dining room enables you to enjoy your meals in a charming antique setting and you can connnect your laptop to the wifi broadband internet connection for free!

THREE BEDROOMS
The master bedroom has a double bed and en suite shower room.
The second bedroom also has a double bed.
The third bedroom is a single bed.
There is a family bathroom which has a big bath with shower and w.c.

OUTSIDE
The south facing patio garden is a great place to relax and is furnished with good quality table and chairs for eating out on those balmy summer days. Beside the patio there is private parking for one vehicle but further vehicles can park on the street in front. We are situated at the end of a terrace of four similar homes and behind us there are just three houses so the only people that use the lane beside the cottage are our nice neighbours. It’s a rare treat to be situated so close to the town and yet to still have peace and quiet.

FINALLY
Avalon Cottage has a very special atmosphere, people return to us again and again. There is something happy and calming about the place, everyone feels it and everyone seems to be completely at home there. I have to say that 'Party Animals' wouldn't enjoy the cottage and neither would my neighbours. Nowadays we have people ringing up and saying, ‘My friend/mother/boss stayed at your cottage and they’ve been raving about it ever since and I just have to come and stay there.’ It’s very flattering and very satisfying to know that we provide something which is so greatly appreciated.

The West Country / Somerset region

Glastonbury is a different and rather lively small town. It has rich traditions, a cosmopolitan community and a taste of tomorrow. It sits on the ancient Isle of Avalon in the Somerset Levels, with a backdrop of soft, green, rolling hills.

It has been a pilgrimage place for thousands of years. In the Middle Ages a great abbey was here - it was England's 'holyest earthe'.

It now hosts the famous Glastonbury Festival, pilgrimages, music, a carnival, several conferences and other events. People visit from the world over, seeking a certain special something....

Overlooking it all is Glastonbury Tor, a fascinating holy hill.

Tradition has it that Jesus visited and Joseph of Arimathaea built a church here, King Arthur and Guinevere were buried here and it was an ancient place of the Goddess. It was home to the medieval saints Patrick, Dunstan, Benedict, David and Bridget.

Today it is a unique, atmospheric town of nearly 10,000 people with a mixture of locals, incomers and spiritual seekers. For a hundred years it has been a mecca for 'cultural creatives' and an interfaith town.

The website www.isleofavalon.co.uk tells you all you need to know about Glastonbury - and if it doesn't, it leads you to other Glastonbury sites that will.

Welcome to the Isle of Avalon!

Glastonbury area

Wearyal Hill. Glastonbury Abbey. Chalice Well. A great variety of ancient and fascinating archtecture. Glastonbury is the centre of New Age philosophies in the UK and if you are interested in alternative therapies and non traditional spiritual things then this is the town for you. It is also one of the earliest seats of Christianity and the famous Glastonbury Pilgrimages bringsChristians from far afield.
Events are wide ranging and fascinating - The Goddess Conference. The Dance Festival. Glastonbury Festival. Children's World Festival. The Extravaganza Classical Music Festival and the list goes on and on

How to get there

The cottage is situated at 84 Bove Town, BA6 8JG. From the top of the High Street turn left towards Wells and then immediately right into Bove Town (it is more of a staggered cross roads than a turning). We are a few hundred yards along on the right hand side.
If you are arriving by air, our nearest airport is Bristol, Exeter is the next nearest.
If you are arriving by train the nearest reailway station is Castle Cary. The link from London Paddington to Castle Cary is excellent, fast and frequent.

Further details indoors:
Our guests have said that Avalon Cottage is not at all like a holiday let and much more like a stylish home - and so it is. We have paid attention to detail when furnishing and equipping the cottage and guests will find the standard of comfort and convenience they would expect in their own homes. As our property is 15th century we have strived to stay with a traditional and antique look but without losing the relaxing warmth of a modern home. Bedlinen is provided but please bring bath towels.

ACCESS STATEMENT
The cottage is approached at the front by a flight of several flagstones steps. From the rear the access is much easier, there is a slight incline up the lane to the rear door, guests are advised to enter and leave from the rear. Inside the cottage there is a step from the kitchen to the hall and level access from the hall to all ground floor rooms. We do not have a cloakroom or bathroom on the groundfloor. From the hall there is a flight of stairs to the first floor which comprises three bedrooms, bathroom and shower room. Parking is at the rear of the cottage about five metres from the rear door..

Further details outdoors:
There is a fenced rear patio garden which is very safe for children, is south facing and furnished with table and chairs. The private parking ajoins the cottage at the rear and as this is a very private area for just the few houses on the lane; there are no passers by.

Further details

Sorry, we no longer accept pets and the cottage is non smoking. Unfortunately the property is probably not suitable for people with severe physical disabilities as all of the bedrooms and bathrooms are via a staircase to the first floor.

Conditions

Avalon Cottage is very strictly non smoking.

Guestbook for Avalon Cottage

Just a quick email to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Avalon cottage. We really can't praise it highly enough it's always a bit of a gamble booking from the internet but in this case we feel we hit the jackpot!

We found the cottage to be ideally located and it felt more like a home than a holiday let. It far exceeded our highest hopes. Thank you so much. We'll be back.

Absolutely magical. I'm going home to redecorate my house and make it look just like the cottage!!
