Nestled in the Kilsyth Hills on a working cattle and sheep farm, and with beautiful views over the Kelvin Valley, Stoury Bothy is an excellent destination for you to escape to. Our farm land was the site of the historic Battle of Kilsyth and the landscape is both rugged and peaceful. Stoury Bothy is part of the main farmhouse which sits in its own private ground above the sleepy village of Banton and offers a rural retreat where you can relax away from traffic and bustle. Due to its central location, Stoury Bothy is within easy travelling distance of Stirling, Falkirk and Glasgow. Edinburgh and Loch Lomond are also within travelling distance. We have excellent public transport links. Indeed Glasgow City Centre is just a 10 minute train ride from nearby Croy Station.
Stoury Bothy is full of character and is unique due to its lovingly handmade and handpicked furnishings. You will find a welcoming kitchen dining and living area. Patio doors lead out to the garden where you can have a seat and watch the world drift by. The double bedroom is light and bright and has direct (en suite) access to the family bathroom via a jack and jill lock. The family bedroom sleeps 3 comfortably, (or 4 people with a pleasant squeeze!) and consists of a double bed and 1 to 2 single beds. We are happy to supply a baby cot or crib if needed. Both bedrooms look out to a traditional Scottish farm courtyard. If you look closely you may see a cow calving, birds nesting and sheep asleep!
You can enjoy freshly laid eggs from our hens each morning if you wish, and you can feed the hens your food scraps as part payment.
As you shower, you can look out the bathroom window to the roaming cattle and cudding sheep.
Our Bothy is an excellent destination for all interests
If you enjoy the outdoor life then Historic Kilsyth (which is a Walkers are Welcome town) offers the Forth and Clyde Canal, Auchinstarry Basin, the Antonine Wall, Colzium House and of course all the walks off the beaten track around Banton. We are very near to the Carron Valley wich has a well regarded mountain bike trail and forest walks. Duncarron Medieval Fort also lies in the Carron Valley. Many visitors also enjoy fishing either at Banton Loch or the Carron Valley Resevoir or the Canal. There are also fisheries within just 5 or 10 minutes. The Campsies are just 10 minutes from us and you can enjoy walking the John Muir Trail. Some The West Highland Way are approx 20 minutes away. (Milngavie and Glengoyne/ Dumgoyne)
For daytripping, you really are spoiled for choice. From the bothy you can easily enjoy all the cracking Central Scotland attractions such as super Sirling with its Castle, Briarlands Farm and Safari Park. Fantastic Falkirk and its fabulous Falkirk Wheel ,... all the greatness of glorius Glasgow and everything available in enchanting Edinburgh! Castles, museums, theatres, night life, cinemas....
Nearby towns of Kirkintilloch and Cumbernauld offer shops and cafes. Kirkintilloch, a canal town, is also a "Walkers are Welcome" town and has museums and heritage trails.
Cumbernauld Airport offers leisure flights if you fancy having your head in the clouds!

Although we are situated on a farm, you can dip back into cosmopolitan life with excellent travel links to the 4 main towns and cities mentioned above.
The climate is very Scottish indeed. You could be seated in your garden and watching fluffy clouds float by, equally you may be on the train to Glasgow (just 10 mins from Croy) spending a drizzly day taking in the cafes and museums of Glasgow or Edinburgh.
History lovers may be interested in, our farm land which was the site of the Battle of Kilsyth, the Antonine Wall, Barr Hill, Colzium House, Duncarron Fort, Stirling Castle, The Battle of Bannockburn exhibition and commemoration year 2014, Edinburgh Castle, The Forth and Clyde Canal......and much much more.
Outdoorsy types will love all of the above plus climbing and canoeing at Auchinstarry Basin, walking some of the Kelvin Valley Paths suggested (see our holiday brochures for inspiration) cycling along the Forth and Clyde Canal, or up the Tak Me Doon road for some mountain bikung at Carron Valley Montain bike trail, fishing in the Ttownhead Resevoir (permits avail in the pub) fishing at 3 nearby trout fisheries, golfing, playing tennis in the Banton Village Tennis Courts ..... There's hundreds to do! Just bring some posh clothes, some everyday clothes some wellies and a rain coat and get over here and get stuck in!.
Kelvin Valley is a beautiful small valley which has the Kilsyth Hills leaning on to the Forth and Clyde Canal. Nearby is the Carron Valley and the Campsie Hills. Beautiful and atmospheric. Local towns Kilsyth and Kirkitilloch offer lazy days shopping coupled with some fine pubs, cafes and restaurants. Banton is a sleepy village which has peaceful and rugged aspects and offers a traditional friendly pub and bowling club for good old fashioned pub life. There are many walks around the village of Banton if you wish to wile away the hours not too far from your holiday home.

Thank you and we are so glad that you had a special time. It just goes to show that even outwith the Golf and the Commonwealth Games and the summer, Scotland is still a fabulous place to visit and enjoy the simple things in life, such as eating, walking and breathing in fresh air. My favourite is the eating!
