Barony High Guestbook

What a great place to stay while exploring Glasgow. Easy walk to the the Merchant City part of Glasgow, and to the Piping competitions. Just a short underground ride to Kelvingrove Museum. Lots of nearby places to eat; but also the convenience of a fully functioning kitchen and a large grocer across the street. Very nicely decorated and clean apartment. Relaxing. Worked well for our group of six - two related families travelling together. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The living room had a door for privacy at night, and no noise from the street - but the hide-a-bed was not as comfortable - still feel we got our value out of the cost. I am going to recommend this to my friends and family; and hope to some day come back.

The apartment was excellent. It is very modern and looks and feels new. It's beautifully decorated and well stocked with everything you need including some toiletries and condiments and cleaning products to get you started. The location is very central to everything, grocery store across the street and lots of restaurants in walking distance. You can stand on the balcony and watch the world go by.

The only thing missing for me was a filter coffee maker. Also although the location is really good, it can get quite noisy with traffic if the windows are open. In our case the weather was exceptionally hot, so we did have the windows open all the time.

I would definitely recommend it and would book it again in the future.

There were four adults and two youth in our group travelling from Canada. We found the accommodation just right for our needs. It was located just a 5 minute walk away from downtown. The apartment was very spacious and well stocked with amenities. All of the appliances and fixtures worked well. The space was well maintained and spotlessly clean.

There is a lovely courtyard on the first level full of plant life as well as a community garden around the corner on the way to George Street. Many restaurants were across or down the street: a Fish n Chippie, Italian, American, Greek, Japanese - as well as grocery stores across high street or two blocks down to the Tesco.

There is an infimary/hospital right across the street - so yes - lots of ambulances sirens - but for what that is worth - we could tolerate it considering the benefit of the property.

Moira was very helpful every time we needed her, but that was infrequent as the apartment was perfect. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed 3 nights at Barony High for a family wedding. The flat was immaculate with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and hassle free. We parked the car at the Council multi-storey car park nearby and forgot about it, as we walked everywhere. The centre of Glasgow's shopping area is no more than 10 minutes' walk and there are so many restaurants and bars nearby that you're spoilt for choice. We have no hestitation in recommending Barony High, or Moira's other apartments, where the rest of the family stayed. Thank you, Moira!

"The perfect home away from home!"

We just returned from 8 nights in Glasgow, and we're so pleased we chose this apartment as our home base. It's well designed, well furnished, well located and fully stocked with everything you could want or need. The apartment was comfortable and very homey, and absolutely spotless throughout. And the owner was just wonderful and very accommodating.

The extra touches were evident from the moment we stepped in the front door. A "landing area" in the entry with slickers and an umbrella (it is Scotland after all) along with a shoe rack for keeping wet footwear under control was appreciated. Big soft robes in the master closet were a nice surprise. And while nearly every rental apartment or hotel provides a hair dryer, I was happy to find good quality dryers in each bedroom, and each equipped with a concentrator nozzle.

The kitchen was very well equipped, and with good quality attractive items. We bought groceries so that we could eat breakfast in most days, and the kitchen was a joy to use.

The en-suite master bedroom itself was about the size of a normal UK hotel room, and had a roomy shower with great water pressure. And while, with just two of us, we didn't need the 2nd bedroom, it was wonderful having two bathrooms.

The living room with its two love seats was perfect for lounging in front of the TV on a night in, and the dining table was large enough to seat six for dinner. We also appreciated the little balcony with its view up and down High Street.

Finally, we can't say enough about the flat's location. Having never before been to Glasgow, it was just good luck that we chose to stay on the edge of Merchant City, but we're so glad we did. As other reviewers have mentioned, everything was within easy walking distance.

If you're looking for your home away from home in Glasgow, you can't go wrong with this apartment. It's a great apartment and a very good value.

The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

Strathclyde means valley of the River Clyde. The area is on the west coast of Scotland and stretches from the Highlands in the north to the Southern Uplands in the south. Its population is in excess of 2.5 million.

The main regional administrative headquarters are located within its largest city, the City of Glasgow .

"Set in the eastern quarter of Glasgow City Centre, the Merchant City is at the historic and cultural heart of Glasgow. It has always been at the forefront of the city’s history from St Mungo, who founded Glasgow at the Cathedral, to the eponymous City Merchants’ who grew the city’s once vast prosperity, to leading arts and cultural entrepreneurs now spearheading the current city renaissance. Today the area is witnessing a remarkable rebirth. Previously redundant historic buildings now house cutting edge theatres and galleries interspersed with shops, cafes and restaurants. A growing local residential community, the civic focus of the seat of local government, together with the strong presence of university and academic campuses on its fringes complete the diverse picture – Merchant City – Glasgow’s foremost mixed use quarter."

"Well appointed, close to city centre"

Security door at the entrance led to the elevator which took us to a very clean and well appointed apartment. The interior was modern, bright and airy and included some nice touches such as toiletries in the bathrooms and kitchen basics such as tea, coffee, etc.
The apartment is very central, with Georges Square and the town centre only 5-10 minutes walk, a good selection of restaurants also within easy walking distance. The price to pay for the central location was noise from building works during the day and the occasional late night revellers!
The owner was very friendly and helpful making our overall stay a very pleasant experience.

"The perfect place to stay"

We stayed here for three weeks April - May 2013 and had a wonderful time. The apartment is beautiful and was made even more special by all the thoughtful extras that Moira had provided. It is in a fantastic location close to many of the main attractions but, when in the apartment, it was very peaceful. Having stayed here, we would never book a hotel room again in Glasgow.
