Glasgow is one of the liveliest and most cosmopolitan destinations in Europe. The city has been reborn as a centre of style and vitality set against a backdrop of outstanding Victorian architecture.
Glasgow boasts world famous art collections, the best shopping in the United Kingdom outside London, and the most vibrant and exciting night-life in Scotland.
A must see is the splendour of Scotland's best known architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose style adorns many unique attractions throughout Scotland's largest, greatest and friendliest city.
Golfing enthusiasts have over 30 courses to choose from within a 10 mile ( 15 km ) radius of the apartment.
Edinburgh with its many attractions is 1 hour from Glasgow and is easily reached by car, train or bus.
Loch Lomond.
The stunning scenery surrounding Loch Lomond, the largest freshwater loch/lake in Britain, makes it hard to believe that it is only 14 miles north of Glasgow. Whether you want to soak up the scenery by walking, fishing or cycling or enjoy the loch from the water itself on a speed boat, kayak, canoe, jet ski, or the more sedate cruisers operated from Balloch, there are ample opportunities for everyone.
The Glasgow / West End, Glasgow area
The urbane West End seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of Glasgow city centre. In the 1800s, the city's wealthy merchants established huge estates away from the soot and grime of city life, and in 1870 the University of Glasgow was moved from College Street - near Glasgow cathedral - to a spacious new site overlooking the River Kelvin on University Avenue. Elegant housing swiftly followed and the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery was built to house the 1888 International Exhibition. In 1896, the Glasgow District Subway – today's Underground known locally as "The Clockwork Orange" – started its circuitous shuffle from here to the city centre.
The hub of life in this part of Glasgow is Byres Road, running between Great Western Road and Dumbarton Road past Hillhead underground station. Shops, restaurants, cafés, some enticing pubs and hordes of students give the area a sense of style and vitality. Glowing red sandstone tenements and graceful terraces provide a suitably upmarket backdrop to this cosmopolitan district.
In addition to the stunning Victorian architecture it is also known for its public parks and gardens and as a home for celebrities.
Glasgow is a shoppers' paradise, second only to London for sheer volume and choice. The vibrant city nightlife brings further choices with it's with funky bars, restaurants, theatres and clubs.
Places to visit include Ashton Lane at Byres Road, Glasgow's Botanical Gardens, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Kelvingrove Park. Princes Square, Buchanan Galleries, Loch Lomond Shores, The Mackintosh House, Merchant Square,The Burrell Collection, National Bagpiping Centre, Museum of Transport and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC). Depending on whether you walk or choose to drive, all of these attractions are easily accessible from the apartment.

When you approach this apartment, you will not be impressed by the architecture, but once inside you get a warm greeting from the owner; a nice welcome pack of essentials, and a lovely, comfortable apartment, which is 2 minutes from the nearest shops and 10 minutes walk to a main shopping/restaurant/bar street and the metro which takes you easily to nearly all the sites in Glasgow. We were able to park free right outside the apartment and the whole area is quiet and pleasant. Paul emailed lots of links and information to help us plan our holiday. The city of Glasgow was also a really pleasant surprise. It is green, friendly, easy to get around and full of interesting museums. If you like the architecture and interior design of Macintosh and his wife,m you will enjoy the houses and museums. The transport museum was fascinating with a recreation street and lots of interesting films. We had a 5 day break in Glasgow and walked for 7 or 8 hours every day to see most of the sites. All in all an excellent holiday and Paul's apartment is the ideal base Response: Many thanks for your review. |

One has to stay in this flat to understand what the rave reviews are all about. My husband and I stayed in this flat for 3 weeks in June and we were very sorry to leave. The place had grown on us and we actually missed it when we reached home. The location is excellent. The shops, restaurants and subway station as well as bus stops are all close by. The flat is in a residential area hence the place is very quiet ensuring nights of peaceful sleep. The bed is most comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and above all, the flat was very clean. What makes the flat a cut above the rest is that the owner is by far the best host/landlord one can ever hope to meet. Coming from a tropical country, he made sure that the heaters were turned on before we arrived. They might seem like minor things but the owner being there when we arrived to welcome and familiarize us with the place, his leaving a handbook on places to see and things to do in Glasgow and nearby places, as well as his coming around before we left to make sure we were alright, make a whole lot of difference. There is no doubt that when we go back to Glasgow, we will make a beeline for this flat. Unfortunately, with all the great reviews it has been getting, there are less available open dates. Response: Your comments are very much appreciated and thank you for taking the time to submit your review. |
