I rented quarry Cottage for a month and on the day I moved in I discovered that the temperature indicator int the fridge was warning that it was too warm. I had a digital thermometer and this indicat… More

Dear all,

I regret that Nomad's stay, subsequent complaints, small claims case and mediation was so stressful for us all - The £100 goodwill gesture was agreed to settle the case, with no further contact or comment on either side.

I will not comment on Nomad's further allegations.

I do need to note:

- the central heating fired by a 'ancient Raeburn' is found to be extremely cosy by most visitors – But in May, most visitors prefer to use the log stove & electric convector heaters.

- Also, as with most showers, there is an on/off switch.

- Our cleaner Maria, is happy to help out, as am I, with visitors who have problems – and takes a commonsense and helpful line. This is usually appreciated.

- Web visitors can judge for themselves the state of the bathroom by photos available on holiday lettings & on the site of the cottage itself.

- Internet & broadband usage is included in the rental of the cottage.

I'm happy to say that since Nomad's stay at Quarry cottage 27 April – May 23 last year, numerous guests have enjoyed themselves & put reviews on this website – although more often in the comments book at the cottage.

However, the cottage has recovered its spirits and continues to be visited by families large and small, couples, retired people, British & foreign visitors.
I myself love staying at the cottage with my dog, my family & friends - It's where I was brought up, so I'm biased – but it's wonderful when people let us know that they too have got a lot out of their stay.

And I'm pleased that a multicultural crowd of visitors have enjoyed themselves since May 23 last year.

"A real get away from it all location"

Booking the cottage through the owner was simple and straightforward.Quarry Cottage is a comfortable cosy cottage located in a quiet secluded location. The bird song and sound of sheep bleating is a real reminder that you're in Wales and music to the ears! The surrounding scenery is spectacular and great for walkers, canoeists and cyclists. For those who are a little less energetic there are lots of lovely towns and villages to visit.A real gem of a place if you like getting away from it all.

"A gateway to a great getaway break"

Nestled into the wooded hillside above Glasbury and the river Wye within four miles of the famous book festival town of Hay, Quarry cottage combines privacy with unpretentious simple comfort and relaxed homeliness. Inside there are a wide range of OS maps and books for exploring everything outside - the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and Wye valley, all so conveniently on your doorstep. If the weather becomes just too extreme there's a warm welcoming Rayburn to dry your clothes against in the kitchen and a variety of board games and entertainments including TV, DVD, wifi and so forth in the spacious high beamed living room –a perfect setting to while away a bleak Winter night beside a cosy log burning fire.

Quarry cottage is a little gem of a hideaway standing in its own grounds and pretty garden (we were there during the all rain and gales of Christmas 2013) and it was just ideal - a clean, comfortable easy living refuge for any month of the year

"Amazing! Wonderful Peaceful Location. First Class."

Stayed with a friend in this beautiful peaceful location. Great communication from cottage owners, nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was extremely well furnished and equipped and although our stay was in November, the cottage was beautifully warm.
I look forward to returning soon, First class.

"Great house, great area"

I have stayed at Quarry Cottage several times and with each visit the facilities get even better and the house is a great find. The secluded site and the area round about make this an ideal 'retreat'.
Cosy is the right word, and if the weather threatens (as it does sometimes in Wales) then the log burner just adds to the cosiness.
Don't expect Wi-Fi or a strong mobile signal, the whole point about a place like Quarry Cottage is that the world can't get at you.

So glad you continue to enjoy quarry cottage.
We look forward to welcoming you back again!
Sorry that the printed instructions for broadband contained a typo.
The correct password is now on the written instructions as well as the router!
Mobile coverage is set up to please the more sensitive, who prefer people to walk away to use their mobile!
However, the landline's there as an alternative, so hope you enjoy another stay!

Following our phone & e-mail conversations, your review on the Holiday site did surprise me. I'm so sorry that, in contrast to your emails you seem not to have enjoyed your stay.
The lovely couple A & M who take care of the house were mortified that they had made a mistake about the dates of bookings, so had not done the cleaning or been there to welcome you. I'm sorry you did not give me a ring, as I would have been able to advise – and get hold of them. A & M did contact me as soon as they realised, and I rang you straight away. I wish you had said, when asked if everything was all right and whether any cleaning needed doing at the beginning of your stay.
I'm so glad that you were able to be upfront with your concerns about the shower curtain, which was replaced on the 10th when you raised the issue. The cottage is obviously normally cleaned after every visit, it's very unfortunate and I do apologise again, that a mistake was made prior to your stay.
Thank you for your positive response to my e-mails: "mistakes do happen, and it wasn't serious…I felt rather awful telling you about the shower curtain, but just thought that it might stop people looking around for other things to complain about, which happened in my experience of letting the cottage we had for over 20 years!”
I really regret you felt the cottage wasn't up to standard. We have been so busy, refurbishing all bedrooms & living/dining room, plus a new kitchen in the last two years. It's unfortunate you also found the re-upholstered conservatory furniture uncomfortable. We have been pleased over the last year by a warm response from other guests– but there is always work to do.
It is difficult, holding down our prices over the years, in the recognition that many families are struggling with the economic situation, to do everything at once. The bathroom has not yet been modernised. However, the shower does work – it does require using an electric switch – which is explained in the notes sent out to guests, which are also available in a file at the cottage. A & M also make an effort to let people know how things work. We do rely on people getting in touch if they are struggling – so sorry you did not feel able to mention your difficulty to myself or A & M.

With best wishes for your future holidays.
