Farmhouse | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 6
OLASTUN IS A BIG TRADITIONAL COUNTRY HOUSE SITUATED AT A FARM ON A BEAUTIFUL ISLAND ON THE CENTRAL COAST OF NORWAY. THE MAIN TIMBER HOUSE IS FROM 1600, BUT WAS REBUILT IN 1840 BY MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER NAMED OLA, HEREBY THE NAME OLASTUN.
THE MAIN HOUSE HAS TWO FLOORS. IN FIRST FLOOR IS A FULLY FURNISHED LIVING ROOM WITH FIREPLACE, TV etc. HERE IS A BIG KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM, A BATHROOM WITH HEATED FLOOR, BATHTUB AND TOILET. A SLEEPING CHAMBER IS NEXT TO IT, SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE NOT ABLE TO WALK THE STAIRS. HERE ARE TWO HALLS AND TWO ENTRANCES FROM OUTSIDE. THE SECOND FLOOR HAS FOUR BEDROOMS AND A LOUNGE.
OUTSIDE IS A VERANDA FOR EATING OR RELAXING IN A BIG GARDEN WITH FRUIT TREES, FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES.
IN THE GARDEN IS A SMALL TIMBER HOUSE FOR SLEEPING WITH A VERANDA FOR ENJOYING SUN AND WHATCHING WILD ANIMALS LIKE GRAZING DEER AND WILD SHEEP- AND BIRDS LIKE EAGLES, FALCONS AND OWLS PASSING BY. THE VARIETY OF BIRDS IS AMAZING AND IDEAL FOR BIRD-SPOTTING AND PHOTOGRAPHING.
ON THE FARM ARE ALSO TWO SMALLER INDIVIDUAL HOUSES TO LET, BOTH SUITABLE FOR SMALL FAMILIES OR COUPLES.
The farm has been run actively until last year, for the last 12 years with Norwegian wild sheep herded by Icelandic horses and Boarder collies.
HIKING - DIVING AND FISHING PARADISE::
The island is ideal for hiking in a varied landscape where you will never get lost as you will always hit the sea and follow the shore to the main harbour. From the main road there are signs showing direction and distances to the different sites on the once vulcanic island with its varied geology with lots of caves and particular formations. It is also possible to have a fit horse to take you through the landscape on its back.
Belonging to the farm is a large beach area with exceptionally good conditions for scuba and other diving for exploring and catching large scallops and a variety of cockles and mussels among islots and rocks in clean sea waters. Here you may meet and swim with otters, dolphins and different whales.
All around the island are the best conditions for catching all kinds of sea fish all year, in summer also salmon, trout and mackerel, from land and from boat. Traditional Norwegian viking-style wooden rowing and sailing boats.may be hired at a very low price.
The surrounding area is one of the biggest archipelagos in Norway with more than 6000 islands and islots. The old now deserted fishing village and commercial center of Risvær is the nearest island group. Not far is also the historical island Leka, where the local viking kings resided in their heyday.
Standby camping wagons and combi-camps parked in nature may also be hired at very reasonable prices, like NOK 100 a night.

About this location
The Nord-Trøndelag region
The region of Trøndelag is divided into two counties, the North and the South (Nord-Trøndelag and Sør-Trøndelag)
The island Gjerdinga is situated in the northern part of North-Trøndelag, in Namdalen near the boarder to the beautiful county of Nordland.
Namdalen is like a Norway in miniature, with high mountain areas, like the Børgefjell National Park boardering Nordland and Sweden.
Going down from mountains following the rivers through tlarge forests, lakes and ending in the great salmon river Namsen passing by rich farmlands is ending in the town of Namsos where a conglomerate of fjords is penetrating the mainland from the open ocean of Folla, where so many ships and lives have been lost due to the harsh and often stormy weather.
GJERDINGA is one of many islands in the middle of an archipelago with more than 7000 islands that streches from the Vikna islands with its capital Rørvik northwards to the historical island Leka with its geological phenomenal and former volcanic landscape, reminding of Iceland, but where you only find similar remnants from the Big Bang in other places than on Cyprus and in New Zealand.
Most of the islands of this archipelago are deserted and uninhabited, The island Gjerdinga is one of few exceptions where people have lived from fishing, farming and hunting since the stone ages- and still live here today all year round.
Still today the island and its surroundings is a paradise for fishing from land and from boats and diving for scallops and a large variety of mussles and cockles which grow in the cleanest seawaters.
The island`s geography is generally ideal for all kinds of moving in nature, hiking and climbing the mountains and along the shores where you will always find your way back.
