The swimming pool and jacuzzi area is walled, fenced and gated. The swimming pool has a solar cover that helps us maintain good temperatures for much of the year. The pool is usually swimmable (above 18°C), without a wetsuit, from April through to November. The exact temperature depends on the weather. The property has woodland to the rear of the property and patios with BBQs to the west and a vegetable garden to the east. The parking area and the pool area are to the south of the property. The parking area is gated from the driveway.
Two of the ground floor rooms are adapted for wheelchair users and the whole ground floor is wheel chair accessible including the gym, laundry room and media room. The door ways are wide. The pool and jacuzzi area has a ramp up to them. We have already had a few wheelchair users stay and they said they were very happy with everything. We are delighted to chat with people before they come to make sure we have everything they require so that they will enjoy their stay.
The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region
The climate is good year round from early January we can get highs of 17 to 20°C, although we can still get frosts through to March. In the Summer expect highs of 30 to 34 °C in the last 2 weeks of July and first 2 weeks of August. But this is the highest the temperatures get. The Autumns are lovely with the changing colours and the still warm sun. There are usually few days of rain but when it does rain it really rains, usually lasting 4-5 hours, so the landscape stays green and lush. The region is covered in trees, mostly evergreen oak. There are many sites to see including Dali's famous Museu de Teatre, plus his fishermans house and his castle. There is artisan shopping in medieval Besalu and good shopping in Girona and Barcelona. The region hosts many festivals including olive oil festivals, Girona's flower festival, medieval festivals and honey and other food festivals. So usually almost every weekend there is something of interest happening in the area.
The province of Girona is beautifully green with high mountains, volcanoes and high escarpments descending down to the beautiful coves and beaches of the Costa Brava. The city of Girona has a wonderful old town with ancient buildings, arab baths, cathedral and churches. There is good shopping and great restaurants including the world number 2 restaurant: El Cellar de Can Roca, which we can recommend. You will need to make reservations early as it has now become more difficult to get a table. We are happy to help you make reservations and we can recommend many great restaurants in the area.

"breath taking scenery, epic cycling rides and beautiful accommodations"
I am fortunate enough to have had two extended stays at Mas Pelegri. My purpose of stay was training related however, given the breath taking scenery, epic cycling rides and beautiful accommodations it could have easily been mistaken as a luxury vacation.
I have cycled in many places worldwide and the location of Mas Pelegri, which is situated on the foot hills of the Pyrenees, is hands down the best training- in terms of scenery, challenge and tranquility from traffic. You can be out the door and riding on quite roads within minutes.
The small town, Banyolas, only 10 minutes away, offers a feel of real Catalina living. Since it has not been over run by tourism, you get the privilege of experiencing the true culture. Usually this experience comes with the price of not having access to modern training facilities, however Banyoles is unique in that it has two quality pools to train in, as well as, a beautiful lake. There are endless trail runs and a dirt track the surrounds the lake. (Lined with coffee shops-to meet caffeine needs)
The family that runs the Mas Pelegri are willing to help in any way to accommodate individual needs. They have a first-hand understanding of the needs of athletes, of all levels, as well as families.
I have had the privilege of receiving expert coaching from the owners, which has allowed me to reach my current level of competition as a professional triathlete. I would recommend, a short or long term training vacation at Mas Pelegri to anybody looking for a quite get away or a prefect cycling or triathlon training facility. I look forward to returning every year!

I am writing this in English as we have guests that come to Mas Pelegri from all over the world and English is the most common language spoken. One of our team does however speak fluent french and conversed freely with these guests about exactly what they were after, as they did not like the regional products we served them.
The swimming pool can either be accessed by steps or a ramp and we have even had a wheelchair bound client access the pool easily. The pool is surrounded by non slip tiles which are required by the rules here for the pool. These guests wanted a wooden deck, but Mas Pelegri is built to current rules and we must have non slip tiles. The swimming pool was very slightly cloudy after a rain storm. We informed the guests that this is normal as sometime here we get rain which contains dust particles. The pool by the end of that day was crystal clear again. The pool at all times had the correct chlorine and pH levels as we must check daily and then every month we must take our pool testing sheet to the office at the local town hall. Swimming pool quality is really important to us. This group were also washing their windsurf board and equipment in the pool when they came back from the beach, so we had to also remove sand etc from the pool whenever this occurred.
We had 5 long chairs and 28 outdoor chairs and went out and bought 2 more long chairs for them as they said they required them. We also at their time of arrival had a huge gazebo by the pool and a very large umbrella, plus 2 trees that add shade. They said they required another umbrella, so we went out and bought one at our own expense to make sure they were happy.
Our chef has been a chef for 20 years and everyone says how brilliant she is. She really is great and is a real asset to us. We bought regional products, as this is what they asked for, including one of the most expensive hams you can buy from this region and the local olive oil from a village near by and other products. But these people did not like the ham and other foods. So our chef asked what they would like and we changed our menu to fit their tastes. Yes, some products were bought from Lidl, as this is a good supermarket here and it labels were products are from, so we know we are buying locally. Here many of the market stalls buy their fruit and vegetables from other countries and we feel it is important to stick to regional products were possible. The expensive ham and the olive oil and the meat were bought from local shops, including a great local butcher who buys their meat from the local farms, not from Lidl. We also included organic vegetables grown on our small plot.
The wines we served them on their first few days before their French wine arrived were Castello Perelada Tres Fincas, Torres Vina Sol, Marqués de Cáceres. All of our guests, up until these ones really like these wines that are from Spain. We had no idea these people did not enjoy the wines we served as they did not tell us at the time, and drank them with no complaints.
The water at Mas Pelegri comes from a 120m deep well and is drinkable. We have it tested. But we do not add chlorine or filter it. So we inform all clients staying at Mas Pelegri. In this case one of the group was pregnant, so we suggested on the safe side she may like to drink bottled water. But at no time did we ever say the water was non drinkable, Most of our guests drink it and are very happy. It does not taste but is more like a mineral water as it contains more salts than rain or tap water.
This group booked Mas Pelegri for self catering purposes and then asked us to cater for some of their meals. They signed a contract when they booked explaining that they were liable for breakages and for the removal of their rubbish. On the third day one of their group asked us about the rubbish and I informed them that they were supposed to clear up their rubbish/trash and remove it to the bins in the village, as is the way in Spain and explained on the contract. We cleared up our waste and cleaned up after every meal we cooked and served. You do not get trash collection at the houses in Spain. This person asked if we could do it for the group every day, as they did not want to clear up the trash and they did not mind paying for this service. So every day I would go around collecting their empty wine bottles and assorted waste from around Mas Pelegri and take it to the village and also wash their wine glasses etc. This was not a 2 minute job, as wine bottles were even put in the sun flower field next door to the property and I had to sweep up broken glass etc. This group broke 1 bed, 1 sun lounger, 31 glasses, 4 expensive bowls, 4 expensive plates, 2 olive oil pourers, 2 serving bowls, lost the bread knife, and also broke 9 assorted other tablewear. When we asked for a contribution or for them to replace some of the breakages they started shouting. Normally for the odd breakage we do not charge, but this was not a normal amount of breakages. In this case we did not get any money from them for the breakages and they did not replace the broken items. When they left we found more bottles and tablewear (which we managed to rescue and is not included in the above breakages) in the next door field as they asked us to stop removing the rubbish after the first week as they did not want to pay for this service. So in the end we just had to clear it all up at the end anyway.
The main purpose of a contract when a group is renting the whole of Mas Pelegri is to keep Mas Pelegri in a good condition, so one group will not effect the next people to come and stay, by leaving huge amounts of damage. It is not a way for us to make money.
Mas Pelegri is built ecologically, as we inform perspective clients on our web site and in the brochure. We therefore among other things use ecological light bulbs. These take a few minutes to warm up to full light. But because they are so low wattage, they can be left on for a number of hours without consuming much power. In the Summer it is incredibly bright outside and if people do not wear sunglasses, as was the case with many of this group, Mas Pelegri may seem a little dark, as any house would do, when you enter from outside. Everyone actually comments how light and bright Mas Pelegri is, as we have put in large windows to allow natural light to enter the house. We have a system that increases the power whenever we require more and this works brilliantly. But people who are not used to the fact that ecological light bulbs take a few minutes to warm up may find it a bit strange.
We do not say we have a garden on any of our promotional material. Mas Pelegri is surrounded by countryside, So we have woods to the north, a field to the west, which in this case was full of sunflowers in bloom, the pool and the car park to the south and our vegetable garden to the east plus more trees and also our little house, which is completely separate from Mas Pelegri. We have small areas of plantings, which include lavender, hibiscus, fruit and olive trees plus other pretty flowering plants. There is not a huge manicured lawn as we are trying to conserve water and in this area of Catalunya there is not much top soil and half the charm of it is that there is bed rock poking through. We are sorry that this group from the Paris area of France did not like Mas Pelegri, but everyone is different and we are never going to suit everyone's tastes.
If any group is serious about booking the whole of Mas Pelegri, we let the group organiser come and stay for one night, complementary, to check it out for their group, as it is important to us that they and their group have a great time at Mas Pelegri. This group did not ask to view Mas Pelegri before they booked the property.
