About the home

If you are looking for classic South-of-France ambiance, our well furnished gite is your destination. Spread over two floors, it boasts all modern facilities to make your stay supremely enjoyable and comfortable, while retaining the charm and exclusivity of the original Chateau buildings. Chateau Le Vergel-Authenac is a grand, beautiful and peaceful setting, ideal for complete relaxation but within easy reach of local villages and major towns.

With this quality of property, you would expect the large wine Cave on site. The domain is set in 20 hectares of which 8 are conserved for producing the AOC MINERVOIS and 2.5 hectares are preserved as a natural park. The vineyard planting started in November 2011 and our yield will bear the applellation "CHATEAU LE VERGEL-AUTHENAC.

Chateau Le Vergel Authenac is owned by french proprietors who are on site and available at all times.

There is a 8 metre x 4 metre pool, a large barbecue and extensive gardens and pathways for strolling and relaxing during the day and evening.

Ideally situated for a coast and country vacation in the renowned Minervois wine region. The World Heritage Site of the Canal Du Midi is just a few minutes drive which is perfect for walking and cycling and offers many superb restaurants. The historical City of Minerve is only 10 minutes drive. The Roman City of Narbonne is 12 miles away and it's only 30 miles west to the Medieval City of Carcassonne. Beziers is 20 minutes and hosts the famous Feria de Beziers, centred around bullfighting.

Within 40 minutes drive you have the choice of many Mediterannean beaches, Cap D'Agde, Narbonne Plage, Guisson to name but a few, with miles of white sand and you will be spoilt for choice of sea food restaurants.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

The Languedoc-Roussillon area of France is the perfect holiday destination. With beautiful countryside, fascinating medieval history and a wonderful climate. Situated in the far south west, it is only an hour away from the beaches of the Mediterranean sea, and a short drive from the majestic snow covered Pyrenean mountains.

Carcassonne at it's Medieval city – a UNESCO World Heritage site – The 2500 year old city features three kilometers of ramparts and 52 towers and is considered one of the best preserved examples of the Middle Ages to be found in Europe.

The Ginestas area

The village of Ginestas has a selection of very good restaurants and a local convenience store.

There are also some very beautiful walks available. It's a fantastic area for fishing, horse-riding, cycling and some canoeing. The Mediterranean beaches at Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan are only a 35 minute drive away. At the more local Lac du Jouarres (15 mins by car), you can also walk, fish, swim and windsurf.

For sight-seeing days out, there's a lot of choice. Wine-tastings are available at many of the local chateaux and domaines. Spend a day seeing the medieval city of Carcassonne with its fantastic walls and towers. Visit the remains of the Cathar castles, go and visit the lively city of Narbonne with its famous indoor market hall. From there drive over La Massif de la Clape and visit the coastal resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne Plage and don't miss the olive oil mill called the 'Oulibo' just down the road at Bize-Minervois.

Other shops, supermarkets and restaurants can be found nearby in Olonzac, St Marcel d'Aude, Bize-Minervois and Le Somail. There's a weekly market on a Tuesday morning in Olonzac.

Many UK Low Cost Airlines fly from several well-placed UK airports to local French airports that are within easy reach of Ginestas such as Ryanair, Flybe, Easyjet, Air France. Local airports are Bezier, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Montpelier and also Toulouse.

Driving from the French coast takes approximately 11 hours by car or travel with Eurostar/TGV from London to Bezier or Narbonne (30 minutes away) in under 8 hours.
