Terra Alpina
About the home
Terra Alpina is a former farmhouse that was completely rebuilt and converted to five luxurious holiday apartments in 2007/2008. It sits 300 metres above the road to the St. Bernard tunnel and is half-way between the centre of Aosta and the Swiss border (15 minutes in either direction). It is very convenient for the ski resorts of the Aosta Valley.
Even by the standards of the Alps, the views are spectacular. From north to south there is a 30 km panorama across the Aosta Valley surrounded by dramatic Alpine peaks. It sits at an altitude of 1,300 metres, so the environment is extremely lush in summer and relatively mild in winter.
It is a superb venue for hiking holidays. There are dozens of paths within easy reach of Terra Alpina, including one of Europe's most historic paths - the Via Francigena - which runs from Canterbury in England to Rome and passes 400 metres from Terra Alpina.
In the winter it is 20 minutes from two ski resorts and within an hour of eight resorts across France, Italy and Switzerland including Courmayeur, Cervinia and Verbier.
It is also popular for driving holidays. Terra Alpina is close to the main road to Switzerland and 20 minutes from the St. Bernard Pass. For UK visitors, the scenery may be familiar from The Italian Job - most of the mountain driving scenes were shot within minutes of Terra Alpina. Terra Alpina is not visible from the road, so it is a safe place to park motorcycles.

Further details outdoors:
There is a private parking area for all flats next to the front entrance. There is also 1.5 acres (6000m2) of shared garden which includes meadows and a wood. There is a path through the wood that leads down to a charming picnic spot (still within the grounds of Terra Alpina). In addition Flats 5 and 6 have small private gardens facing over the valley.
There is also a barbeque area in the garden with a permanent stone-built barbeque and a large dining table in the garden that can seat 10 people.
In the summer, there are many fruit trees in the garden which guests are welcome to use - we have pears, apples, plums and more cherries than can possibly be eaten.
Further details
As well as renting individual flats, Terra Alpina is suitable for large groups. Flat 3 has a very large dining area, where is it possible to seat well over a dozen people, so that can act as the focal point for a group.

Enquire nowThe North West Italy / Aosta Valley region
The Aosta Valley is equally attractive in winter and summer.
In winter, it is one of the great skiing areas of Italy, with international resorts such as Courmayeur and Cervinia plus a host of medium-sized resorts such as Pila, La Thuile and Monterosa. Two ski resorts are within 20 minutes of Terra Alpina and there are eight ski resorts within an hour's drive.
In summer, it is even more popular as Italians come here to escape the humidity of the plains. It has a huge number of sporting activities in the summer, including hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and white-water rafting.
The city of Aosta itself has more Roman ruins than any city in Europe outside Rome itself, and has a superb museum under the Roman walls. As the capital of one of Italy's most prosperous regions, it also has excellent shops and restaurants and has a beautiful pedestrianised town centre.
The Gignod area
In the summer, sports include horse-riding, golf (there is a nine hole course within walking distance of the house), white water rafting, hiking, mountain biking - in fact virtually any sport that can be done in the Alps. All year round, there are the thermal spas, a brand-new swimming pool and wellness centre less than 10 minutes drive from the house, plus the historic city of Aosta.
It was built by the Romans and has been the gateway to the Alps for 2000 years. With so much trade passing through, it has always been very prosperous and the local architecture (and shops!) reflect that heritage.
