The Normandy / Manche region
In the nearby town of Dom Jean, one of France’s floral villages you can find public landscaped gardens. Experience the history of the Normandy coastline with a visit to the D Day Landing beaches. St. Martin de Brehal is our nearest beach, 30 minutes drive from the house. It is a seaside town with gift shops, beach cafes and a restaurant. There is also a nine hole golf course at Brehal, with views out to the sea. Further down this coast are a selection of neighbouring beaches, some towns with typical seaside amenities, and some without. Spend a day visiting Mont St. Michel which is a well known attraction ; stay long enough to experience the changing tides. Beyond Caen is the seaside town of Etretat with its naturally formed arches built into the cliffs framing a pebbly beach below. For a family day out why not go to Festyland, a theme park in Caen. There are rides and shows and places to eat . There is a zoo at Villedieu-les-Poeles. Villedieu is also famous for its copperware. Bayeux (where the famous tapestry depicting the battle of 1066 can be found) Caen, and Falaise are all areas of historic interest.
Gieville area
Le Haut Hamel is in a small rural hamlet about 3km from the nearest town, Torigni Sur Vire. Here, you will find shops for local provisions, a supermarket, bakers, butchers, post office, banks, restaurants and a local tourist office. There is a picturesque lake where you can hire pedal boats, go fishing, have a quiet picnic, or go for a stroll and enjoy the local scenery. Across the road from the lake is a 17th Century Chateau. Here you will also find a children’s playground and crazy golf . There is a market just outside of the town hall on Monday mornings.
