The Island of Gozo region
The Maltese archipelago consists of the islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino and is a relatively small group of islands in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea with a rich history accumulated over the centuries, thus offering the prospective visitor many varied places of interest and things to discover. Just over 90km south of Sicily and 288km north of Africa, these islands have had various conquerors throughout the years, leaving behind them a mark in history.
Having a total population of around 400,000 people, Malta is the largest island. Gozo is the second largest and is 'greener' because it is more rural than Malta, where more crafts and traditions are still practiced among the inhabitants. Comino is mostly known for its Blue Lagoon, a crystal clear rocky beach and its other bays, one of which has of a nice four star hotel.
Enjoying sunny weather for the major part of the year, Gozo has a wide selection of different beaches and a laid back way of life. There are plenty of restaurants offering an exquisite and varied cuisine. With over 7,000 years of history, there is a great deal to see and do during your holiday in Gozo.
These islands have their own language – Maltese - which is based on Arabic but with various Italian and English loan words. English is also an official language and over 95% of the population talk and understand English very well. Italian is also spoken and understood widely. Malta joined the European Union as a full member in 2004 and adopted the Euro as its national currency in 2008.
Unique activities not to miss are the weekly village feasts in summer, the daily open market of It-Tokk in Victoria held all throughout the year, the Carnival of Nadur in February and the Good Friday procession in a number of villages throughout Gozo.
One can find a large number of beautiful sandy and rocky beaches all over the island of Gozo with a number of locations ideal for scuba diving and water sports. The Azure window, the Inland Sea, the Fungus Rock and the Dwejra watchtower, all located in Dwejra - a UNESCO World Heritage site -are all a must-see. Gozo has a very rich cultural heritage, which includes the 5000 year old Ggantija neolithic temples in Xaghra as well as the Victoria Citadel.
Gozo's cultural calendar is ongoing with exciting activities scheduled through the year. Theatre enthusiasts will be enthralled by the island's two theatres, the Aurora Opera House and the Astra Theatre, which have become synonymous with the various classical operas held there on a regular basis.
Meanwhile a blossoming art world is also emerging and several new galleries were inaugurated lately. Shopping lovers will feel at home in Gozo's main shopping street - Triq it-Tigrija, or Racecourse Street - in the capital, Victoria, or exploring the colorful markets that take place in various spots throughout the island.
Gozo is replete with scenic routes and vistas and is the ideal place to explore on foot or bicycle, where one can enjoy panoramic views over hills, valleys, the rugged coastline, cliffs and other places of natural beauty.
As in the rest of the Mediterranean region, good food is important to the Gozitans. The traditional diet is one of fresh produce, fish and olive oil, and today this is blended within an array of restaurants all over the island.
Popular food hotspots include Marsalforn, Xlendi and Victoria where there is a wide variety of eateries to suit every palate. Top class international cuisine, including Italian, French, Chinese and Indian food, is also on offer.
Don't let Gozo's tranquillity fool you – the island is also bubbling with plenty for night lovers too. The nightlife can be energetic and busy, especially on weekends and during summer, with several clubs and bars whether you fancy something classic or buzzing. Unique hotspots can be found all over the island but many are concentrated in the Xlendi, Marsalforn and Victoria areas.
Gozo's cultural calendar also ensures that there are many lively nights and the sprightly village feasts (complete with elaborate fireworks displays) dominate the summer months. Band music is also popular and each town or village has at least one band club which play during these 'festi' creating a vibrant aura of celebration and merriment through the streets.

"Fab apartment great location"
Had a few issues when first arrive
1, fridge freezer,, gross antibiotics might have fixed it ,, had to bleach the dead food growing in all corners ,,
2, no umbrella for outside or mattress for sunbeds,
BUT all the rest of the apartment was very clean
After speaking to Mario he did address and sort out the umbrella and sunbed issue and may I say very promptly ,,
If it was not for Mario and Anna I would not recommend this to my friends !!
But due to his attention and professionalism I would as all was put right ,
And I must say the location was great and the outside space was brilliant ,

"Perfect, relaxing and stunning location"
The location was stunning. Accommodation exceeded our expectations. The travel agency (Mario and his wife) were extremely helpful with information and transfers.
The fort is a great reshot, with great pools, local restaurants and we would definitely return again!
We are delighted that you made the most out of your short stay at our apartment at Fort Chambray to chill out and relax under the Mediterranean sun. We look forward to be able to host you again in the future!

"The best holiday"
My wife and I have stayed in these apartgments during 2 weeks in September 2013. First of all we want to thanks Mario and his wife Anna, as we had no problems as the time of booking and during the stay. We had a very early check-in and a very late check out. Usually, this involves adding 2 nights, but Mario added only 1 night which is very nice of him. Also, thanks for Anna and Mario roundtrip tranfer to the aiport including the ferry was excellent.
As for the apartments they are "as advertised". It has a very well equipped kitchen. There is a comfortable bed and a conveniet walk-in closet in te main bedroom. The second bedroom is no air conditioning, but to us it did not matter since we stayed together. Electrical outlets English sample but it's not a problem, since you can buy adapters in the supermarket under the hill on the way to the ferry.
We have enjoyed a very relaxing and placeful holiday. We will definitely be back, though as I read on Tripadvisor, Mario delivers not only these apartments. I'm absolutely sure that they are all excellent and the next tume may be for a change try a new place. I'm willing to deal only with Mario and Anna. Thank you so much for everything!
Dmitry and Irina.
It was indeed our pleasure to have been given the opportunity to host you at one of our Fort Chambray apartments. We know you have Gozo very close to your heart and we are sure you will be returning again and again. We will be more than happy and eager to be able to be your hosts on your future visits to Gozo.

"A relaxing stay in the beautful and historical Fort Chambray"
Correspondence before arrival with Mario the manager of this property was excellent, on arrival at Malta airport he was there to greet us and transport us to Gozo, being a Maltese local he was able to provide us with information about how to get the most out of our holiday.
During our stay the Fort was very quiet with only a few residents using the pools and at times we had the pool to ourselves. The apartment was comfortable with a large outside area. The use of a washing machine and well stocked kitchen was very useful I would suggest that ladies take their own hairdryer.
For those who want a relaxing get away this place was perfect with only a 10 minute walk to the harbour to pop on the ferry to Malta for a bit more excitement if wanted.
Two local supermarkets are well stocked with everything you may need to buy as long as you are willing to buy local products they aren't too expensive. We found the local restaurant's and bar very good value for money and unless you have a huge appetite only order a starter even then you may have difficulty finishing your meal.
We found catching the local bus easy but would recommend the short walk to the ferry port to catch it in order to ensure a seat .
A visit to Valetta and Victoria is a must both have lots of coffee shops and breath taking architecture along with enough shops to keep my teenage daughter very happy.
We had 9 days of sunshine and swimming and despite leaving at 3 am to catch our flight at Malta airport this was stress free due to Mario picking us up from the apartment and taking us personally even finding time for some last minute sight seeing to Mdina before leaving. My husband and I plan to return in the near future.
We are delighted to have hosted you and pleased that you have enjoyed your stay at Fort Chambray. We remain at your complete disposal should you wish to return to Fort Chambray in the future.

We stayed at Fort Chambray during the last 2 weeks of June with two teenage boys. The apartment was first class with everything you needed to self cater, including a gas bbq and plenty of outdoor space and furniture. Mario is a very helpful host and the location was perfect - a few minutes from the harbour where the ferry arrives. It was so quiet and peaceful around the grounds and the pool and some times during the week, my husband and I had the whole pool to ourselves! A short walk into the village provided ample entertainment for the lads, at The Sports Bar - highly recommended for its food and drink at very reasonable prices. Two minutes to the bus stop, with three buses an hour, you can be in Rabat (Victoria) with all the hustle bustle of shops etc - or jump another bus out of the capital to one of the sleepy fishing villages for a long lunch (Xlendi is particularly lovely). We have always loved Malta, but this was our first trip to Gozo and we are absolutely smitten - I will be getting in touch with Mario very soon to check out his availability for this October.
We are pleased that you have enjoyed your stay at our Fort Chambray apartment and look forward to be able to host you in one of our properties in Malta or Gozo in the future.
