Adjacent fields for children and dogs to play.

Inside, stone and tiled floors (rugs), high ceilings and exposed beams. From back courtyard, shallow step down to large fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, freezer, larder fridge) with glazed doors to the front; 2 steps up to living room with woodburner, TV/DVD, double-height ceiling and stairs to gallery with futon. Off the living room, shower-room (wet-room) and separate loo (washbasin). From the kitchen, hall leading to two bedrooms ' a double (6' bed), and a twin; bathroom (suite plus bath-shower). The Cornwall region

The Lizard peninsula: quite different to Penwith (see End of England): not wild; very varied. Down its west side are sandy coves (Kynance, with towers of serpentine rock, is stunning). In the middle, Goonhilly Downs are flat, little cultivated, with their very own wild flower species and a satellite tracking station. Lizard Point (lighthouse) is the English mainland's southernmost. The south and east coasts are also of coves between cliffs and one bigger, child-friendly beach, Kennack Sands, and the pretty thatch-roofed villages (not many in Cornwall) of Cadgwith and Coverack, and handsome St Keverne (the farm making Roskilly ice cream is nearby and visitable), and off-shore The Manacles, which sank many sailing ships.

Then, approaching the Helford River's mouth, you come to Gillan Harbour and St Anthony-in-Meneage and all that is soft and dreamy, lush, sub-tropical and wonderful about south-west Cornwall; and so it continues up the wide river to Helford village, Frenchman's Creek and, up another creek, Port Navas (see Cornwall's 'Med'). Helston is the base town; Mullion has a golf course with great views; Porthleven is the fishing village (quite big); Gweek has a seal sanctuary; from Culdrose airbase, sailors of all kinds (and occasionally tourists) are rescued.

Germoe

Germoe: tiny village (14th cent. church) between Helston and Penzance. Huge sandy beach of Praa Sands (pub, PO/shop, café), 1 mile. Rinsey Cove, 1½ miles. Porthleven (large village with shops, pubs, cafés), 3½ miles. St Michael's Mount, 5 miles. St Ives, 9 miles.
