About this location

The Basse-Normandie region

Ideally situated for exploring the many delights of Normandy, there are a huge variety of activities and places to visit, from street markets selling fresh local produce, mediaeval towns and castles to explore, trout and carp fishing, to a visit to the local calvados and cider farms to sample the local brew.

The famous Mont St Michel is less than 50 miles away where you can visit the famous Benedictine Abbey from the 8th Century.

Villedieu-Les-Poeles, the 12th century birthplace of copper, where you can see the traditions of copper, tin and lacemaking.

The mediaeval town of Bayeux to view the world famous tapestry is only an hour and a half away.

A must while you are here is a trip to the more sombre WW2 sites and museums.

Bagnoles-de-l'Orne - a beautiful place to visit with parks, shops and many places to eat, and for a little more excitement - a casino.

For the children there is the enchanted village at Bellefontaine with its miniature railway and animated scenes and the safari lodge at Lisieux, as well as Alligator Bay at Beauvoir.

For those with a taste for excitement you can skydive or do a parachute jump at Avranche or Granville.

Sailing, diving, sea kayaking, land yachting and canoeing are available at Granville.

Excellent fishing for rainbow/brown trout, bream, tench and carp only eight minutes from the cottage at Etang du Moulin, Beautiful scenic lake, English owned, with lunch menu, snacks all day and English beer!

Situated in the Mortainais region of Normandy, this is an ideal base for walking/cycling holidays, with miles of unspoilt bridleways to explore.

There are fabulous restaurants ranging from the very exclusive at 75 euros a head, to the great value 4 courses for around 12 euros, usually including wine!

Horse riding and karting are both available locally.

Heated swimming pool at Mortain.

The waterfalls and Abbey at Mortain are both worth a visit, as is the Fosse Arthour - allegedly the resting place of King Arthur!

"Another fantastic holiday at La Prise Boulay"

Just back from our two weeks at La Prise Boulay. The Gite was at it's normal high standard. This was down to the hard work from Pauline and Phil.
We had lazy holiday this year, not going to far from the Gite. Just sitting out on the decking in the afternoon with a good book and glass of French wine. The weather was fantastic for the two weeks very hot and sunny. We are already planning our 2014 holiday at La Prise Boulay.
Best Wishes

"Another Fantastic Holiday at La Prise Boulay"

A big thank you to Carol & Steve for letting us have the gite at very short notice. Also a big thank you to Pauline & Phil for getting the place ready again at very short notice. We all had a lovely holiday at La Prise Boulay. The gite was was clean and tidy as it always is.
The weather was very cold all week, but you did not notice it with the log burning fire. The gite is like a second home to us. Cannot wait for our holiday in July to come around.
Best wishes Maggs & Dave Brown

"Very relaxing stay"

The four of us were looking to head to Normandy for the first time; we have boys aged 6 & 4, and had struggled to find something suitable in the right place and available when we required it (end July). La Prise Boulay fitted the bill perfectly. There was plenty of space inside and out for the kids to play in (they particularly liked the swing), and the accessories in the house were spot on. The bedrooms were comfy and clean and the location is quiet and remote, hidden amongst trees and narrow lanes. There was wildlife around every corner and each morning we were visited by a Sparrowhawk. We didn't want to leave but, sadly, had to!
