The Crete region
Vrises (6km) is renowned for it's goat cheese and yoghurt. The rivers that flow through its centre make it a nice place to escape the summer heat, in the shade of the giant plane trees.
Georgiopoulis(10km) is the hub for the local farming and fishing communities and boasts a wide, sandy beach that stretches for an impressive 10 km.
Kurnas Lake(13km) has some tavernas, and pedalo rental.The clear water is great for swimming.
The Georgioupoli / Alikampos area
Alikampos is one of the oldest villages of the perfecture of Chania.
It was the center of activities in the revolutions against the Venetians, who destroyed the village in 1527 and they prohibited the residents to rebuilt it.
In the village you can see interesting old houses, Venetian ruins and the Byzantine temple of Koimisis of Virgin Mary.
