Sustainability has been at the heart of renovations on the holiday house, with care given to insulation; use of natural, local materials; low VOC paint; and furniture from companies who also have a policy for sustainability.

The generously equipped house and garden provides you with a comfortable environment in which to unwind or use as a base for exploring local towns, coast and vineyards.

Muted colours, traditional locally made tiled or wooden floors, soft furnishings and unique art work contribute to the relaxing pace of life. The contemporary, minimalist style ensures you have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Radiators and wood burnings stoves, fuelled with logs from our own woods, provide warmth and ambiance for chilly out-of-season evenings, making this a practical house for short or long breaks at any time of the year.

The large open ground floor (12m x 5m) is the hub for for cooking, eating and relaxing. An abundance of cooking equipment and tableware for meals at home; iPod dock; DVD and TV - bring your own music and DVDs or borrow a movie from our extensive collection for evenings in. The two large double bedrooms on the first floor each have their own shower or bathroom. Unbleached cotton bed linen, lots of plump feather pillows and large, soft, fluffy towels help to ensure a peaceful nights sleep.

Additional beds or cots can be provided for young children or babies.

The enclosed flower filled front garden is a restful place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine with views of the valley and vines.

Cleaning, cooking, babysitting at extra charge and by arrangement.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

Nestled amongst the vineyards of Bordeaux, the region offers many wine related activities as well as Bastide towns to visit; markets to explore; Brocantes to browse and river-based activities. The cities of Bordeaux and Bergerac are within easy reach for city sight seeing; museums; theatres; shopping and dining.

The Atlantic coast is around an hour and a half's drive with clean beaches and fantastic surf.

With temperatures reaching the late twenties as early as April and as late as October, local communities organise many outdoor events to make the most of the glorious weather.

Gensac

The local village of Gensac is within walking distance along a very quiet country lane or through the vineyards. In the village you will find a butcher; baker; small supermarket; a weekly market; two restaurants and two cafes - everything for daily needs!

Within 20 mins drive, the small towns of Sainte Foy la Grande, Castillon, and St Emilion have a selection of restaurants, supermarkets, bakers, markets, etc. Sainte Foy la Grande has a lively farmer's market every Saturday morning. Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the holiday house at Chateau de Claribes. We're so pleased you found your holiday relaxing and enjoyed the surroundings as well as the facilities in the house.

We particularly appreciate the suggestions you made about how we could improve the bedding and facilities to make a stay more comfortable during extremely hot weather - I think it was mostly around 40°C whilst you were here!. We have already provided the light weight cotton sheets - I'm sure this addition will provide more flexibility for bed coverings in the hot weather, alongside the summer grade duvets. We have bought electric fans to help keep the air circulating in the bedrooms as you suggested and we'll buy sun loungers for the garden as soon as they're available in the shops in summer 2013!

Thanks again for taking time to e-mail the suggestions - they're very helpful.

We very much look forward to seeing you again!

"Peaceful setting among the vineyards"

What a lovely weekend we had visiting Chateau Claribes! Nestled in the quiet village of Claribes, population 10, we drank the award winning organic wines of the chateau and relaxed between canoe trips on the Dordogne.

Helen & Nick were friendly and welcoming throughout our visit and full of recommendations and tips about the area. Helen even offered to shop for us before we arrived. Thanks to her suggestion to head to the market in Ste Foy la Grande, we enjoyed the best pain au chocolat we have ever tasted! Nick gave us an interesting & informative tour of the vineyards & winery followed by a tasting.

The house was spotless with simple French chic decor and fully loaded with games & dvds. I wish we could have stayed longer!
