BookThe Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region
The little-known Charente Limousine region is both historic and beautiful. Frontier country for centuries from the times of the Romans via 12th century Richard the Lionheart to the Resistance in the Second World War with history, stunning chateaux and sites of interest to match. Equable climate means that although warm in summer it's not sizzling and the lush countryside around the River Vienne sets the idyllic scene!

Colourful markets at Piegut - 35 minutes (every Wednesday - not be missed) and Chasseneuil on the 22nd of each month, Local vineyard at St Sornin 20 minutes and of course Cognac for brandy tastings about 45 minutes. Comprehensive list of attractions/fairs/fetes on our website

Beautiful gite, thoughtfully presented and lovely and clean. Owners Robin and Heather did all they could to make the holiday enjoyable, maintaining a low profile and respecting our privacy but always happy to book restaurants for us or give advice on places to visit. Robin's meals were amazing - it was lovely to have the option of a meal ready for us at the end of the day, we particularly recommend the beef bourgignon! It is a lovely quiet location to relax and unwind and a beautiful area - we loved visiting the chateaux e.g. at Rochechouart and generally absorbing the French culture and pace of life. Only drawback...coming home!! |

Very enjoyable break at the Rose Barn, Beautifully furnished and very comfy bed. Slept really well. Owners very helpful and had some useful suggestions for days out and dining. Area very quiet but we had some lovely days out and can recommend the lake for the day. |
