This spacious apartment represents super value, comfort and space with great gardens private parking, come soon for aa affordable French experience, it's better priced than all the caravans and ready erected tents, offers more space and peace and tranquility.
Further details outdoors:
A BBQ, chairs and tables, a huge lawned garden to sunbathe on, private parking for several cars. Thats about the height of the outdoor facilities. Sorry, forgot to mention the sun, the vin-yards very nearby, the wine tastings, the fact that Cognac and more visits and tastings are very close, there's more Roman history in the area than most places outside Italy. Visit Saintes and it's super Roman aqueduct, bridge and amphitheatre. The Roman village at La Fa. Close to this is Talmont sur Gironde, 500000 visitors a year, it's that pretty, but still just 86 residents (but they all run a tea rooms or gift shop).

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

The Charente-Maritime region is famed for a unique micro-climate which delivers long balmy summers and milder drier winters. As well as glorious sunshine, we do get some rain, hence the region is green and grows the grapes for local wine, Pineau, a local fortified wine as well as the world famous Cognac.
There are so many places to visit, it's almost impossible to list them here. But here's some more information on places to see.
Mortagne sur Gironde is a delightful port lined with bars and restaurants and only 15 mins drive. The Medoc, famed for it's wine is just over the estuary (the Gironde is Europes largest, longest and widest natural estuary), the Chateaux are stunning and reflect the opulence created by the world renowned wines. As mentioned, the beaches are amazing and endless. The Cities of Bordeaux and La Rochelle are within an hours drive and each offer unique attractions. Bordeaux is a major French city with an amazing historic waterfront, along the river banks are bars, restaurants, wine museums, wine merchants offering tastings and many attractions. The city boasts Europes longest pedestrian precinct.
La Rochelle has the most stunning medieval harbour and walled city centre with a truly cosmopolitan shopping centre. It also boasts beaches, casino's and trips to all the islands, including the famoud Fort Boyard, Ile de Oleron (home of the Dep family, Johnny and co), ile de R, a beautiful millionaire island. Have you heard enough yet? NO? Here's some more, the resort of Royan is only 25 minutes away and has seven beaches, one is 3kms long. cove beaches, long white sand beaches, surf beaches, even a naturist beach or two, it's all here.
The zoo at La Palmyre is the best the writer has ever seen (and I used to live in Chester), it has a walk plan route which ensures you miss nothing, attractions include all the usual suspects including a sealife show, parrot show polar bears, ephelumps, tigers, lions etc etc.
If you want more info to fill your hols, give me a call!!!
The Gemozac area
Gemozac has a market every Friday morning, every third Friday of the month, it has the fair which is a bigger market filling the whole small town centre. On sale is everything from a spanner to a live chicken to all foods to all wears, you name it it's here.
Gemozac has several restaurants including La Caravelle, a typical French restaurant offering a 4 course lunch evry day for 11 euros including wine. There's an excellent Italian pizzeria and restaurant with a very full and popular menu, the Kebab restaurant and takeaway is popular with the younger visitors. The town hotel, the Lion D'or (Golden Lion to you or I) allegedly has a chef who worked at the "George cinq" in Paris, the food is good and sensibly priced. Restaurant La Rose is just out of town and worth the trip, again, a low price four course lunch with prices a little dearer in the evenin but not breaking the bank.
You've got to come and try it!!

We were looking for a "budget" out of season holiday break and some friends recommended La Belle Jardin. It was nicely situated on the fringe of a small town, walking distance to shops, restaurants and market, and an easy drive to the city of Saintes, the beaches and countless other lovely places. The apartment itself was quite adequately furnished, and despite the chilly evenings of March, we were very cosy thanks to radiators in every room. When we arrived the apartment was spotlessly clean and the beautiful garden was neat and tidy, its huge terrace was perfect for alfresco breakfasts and lunches and we now cannot wait to go back in the summer to enjoy evening barbeques too! |
