The properties can be let individually or together (see separate details or contact Owners). All the houses have been renovated and completed to an extremely high standard and are newly furnished and equipped.
All four properties have their own private gardens with terraces for outdoor dining.Wooden outdoor furniture, parasols and BBQs are provided.
The magnificent pool at Langlade (16 metres x 10 metres)is set in its own terraced, fenced enclosure with security gate to comply with French regulations .It is situated 35 metres away from the houses so that late bathers do not interfere with romantic outdoor suppers.
Langlade also possesses a dedicated Games Room ( 10 metres x 9 metres) ,located near the pool, for those not so sunny days.It is equipped with table tennis, French table football and Gym equipment. On those balmy evenings enjoy a game of boules on Langlades boules courts in the shade of the century old Walnut trees or simply enjoy strolling around Langlade's two acres of grounds.
For the younger (and perhaps not so young) children Langlade provides a play area offering trampoline (with safety net),swings and slides.
Le Platane, Langlade is a spacious three bedoom two bathroom house with its own private terrace perfect for a single family. There are various other attractions to suit all age groups.

Langlade is set in its own grounds of approximately two acres and includes a 16 x 10 metre swimming pool in its own enclosure [conforming to the new French regulations], a 10 x 9 metre separate Games Room with covered terrace and a dedicated Petanque court. There are various other attractions to suit all age groups.

The nearest shops, boulangerie, patisserie, supermarket are but a 20 minute walk away in Gemozac. There are various regular markets throughout the area.

The beautiful safe sandy beaches and coves of Merschers, Saint Georges de Didonne and Royan are 15 -20 minutes drive away. The historic towns of Saintes or Pons are both 20 minutes away. Within an hour you can be in the beautiful ancient port of La Rochelle, the famous vineyards of Bordeaux or the city itself.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

Our houses are located in the country side between the towns of Gemozac and Cozes. They are only a 15 minute drive from the extensive sandy beaches of Royan and St. Georges de Didonnes and the smaller more intimate coves of the Gironde Estuary. Further afield is the beautiful Ile de Re. The region of Charente Martime has its own micro climate (due to the effects of the Gulf Stream) and as a result receives the second highest number of sunshine hours of any region of France. There are many spectacular sights and places to visit including the Medoc, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Talmont, St. Emilion, La Palmyre Zoo amongst others.

Gemozac / Langlade area

The Area is well appointed for local shops, bars, restaurants and markets in the towns of Gemozac, Cozes, Saintes and Royan. These towns also hold weekly fantastic markets.

There is a corn maze in nearby Cravans and a children's activiity centre in Gemozac.

The area is also renowned for its oyster and seafood generally. Marennes which is north of Royan is a famous oyster centre.

Mortagne-sur-Gironde, Port on the Estuary
A unique site, with its yachting marina and fishing port backed by high white cliffs, with polders protected by a sea wall. Mortagne-sur-Gironde, is an ideal place to visit to get a wider appreciation and knowledge of the estuary of the Gironde. Mortagne has a long harbour history. It was an embarkation port for the pilgrims, then for the emigrants due to leave for Canada and it was a well-known fishing port for sturgeon. A few kilometres before Mortagne, you will drive through Saint-Seurin-d’Uzet, with its port practically in the centre of the village and once famous for the fishing of sturgeon and the production of caviar from eggs of the female sturgeon.
On the headland one has a quasi-aerial view of the port and the channel which connects it to the Gironde, the marshes, the estuary and on the opposite bank, the Médoc vineyard. The marshes begin at the foot of the eroded cliffs and extend to the Gironde

The Ile de Re is a very popular tourist destination. The island is noted to have a constant light breeze, and the water temperature is generally cool. The island is surrounded with gently sloping, sandy beaches, which are a real treat for families and tourists. The island is covered by bicycle tracks, with many residents rarely using cars for transportation. Night life consists of going to Saint Martin, the main port, or to La Flotte, to walk along the quays and to potter around the shops, which are open very late. Restaurants abound. At night, visitors can also watch the buskers, have a drink and enjoy the island's delicious artisanal ice cream, all set in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Royan The Central Market (Marché central) was built in 1955. It is a round shell in concrete eight centimetres in thickness veil. It rests on thirteen peripheral support points without any internal pillar. The market is open every Sunday. The Park of the "Jardins du monde" The jardins du monde ( gardens of the world ) is vast all 7,5 hectares situated in border of the swamp of Pousseau, in the North of the city.

Talmont peninsula is very pretty and a must for a visit. It is quite a tourist attraction with its small lanes (prohibited to vehicles) and hollyhocks bloom on the verges. It has many small gift shops and a very old church high on the headland overlooking the sea.

Pons is situated just the other side of the A10. It has wonderful Donjon [Keep] located in the centre of the town and which allows for fabulous view across the countryside. It has many chic shops and a theatre and exudes charm.

Saintes: is the nearest large town. It was the first capital of Aquitaine during the Gallo-Roman age. Saintes is a town rich in monuments from medieval times. Famous monuments include the Roman Amphitheatre, constructed in about 40 AD, the Arch of Germanicus, erected in 18-19 AD, the Archeological Museum which houses the rich collections of architectural elements and sculptures from the 1st to 3rd centuries. The Abbaye aux Dames, Saint Peter's Cathedral and the Saint Eutrope Basilica give remarkable testimony of the renewal of the importance of Saintes during the Middle Ages. Saintes is a particularly lovely town with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes. It is also possible to take boat trips on the river. There is a fantastic market on the first Monday of the month.

Cognac The town of Cognac is obviously best known for its ‘digestif’. The town's medieval quarter "Vieux Cognac" runs from the Tours Saint-Jacques, alongside the river, up to the Saint-Léger church. The area contains many unusual buildings, built between the 15th and 18th centuries, situated on narrow cobbled streets. The town gives its name to one of the world's best-known types of brandy or eau de vie. Drinks that bear this name must be made in certain areas around the town of Cognac and must be made according to strictly-defined regulations in order to be granted the name Cognac.

La Rochelle The historic port, from which pioneers sailed to explore a brave new world, now has a marina which beckons weekend sailors back to shore. The busiest yachting centre on the French Atlantic coast, the old harbour is overseen by twin fortress towers. Climb the 15th century tower and former prison, the Tour de la Lanterne, for a view over the town. See the ornate facade of the 16th century Hotel de Ville. Perhaps spend some time at the fantastic modern Aquarium (the largest in Europe or the New World Museum).

Rochefort between 1670 and 1800 hundreds of ships were built at Rochefort including the Hermione, aboard which La Fayette embarked for America. An exact replica of The Hermione is now being rebuilt using traditional tools and techniques. The beautiful Chateau de la Roche Courbon nearby is well worth a visit. Called "Sleeping Beauty's Castle" by Pierre Loti, it was built in the 15th Century and embellished in the 17th Century.

Bordeaux: Bordeaux is the most famous wine region in the world. Most visitors come to the city and its surrounds to tour the chateaux, imbibe the world-class wines and indulge in the regional cuisine, but Bordeaux offers much more. The city is also known for its excellent museums, cafes and restaurants and vibrant nightlife. Wide avenues, neoclassical architecture and well-tended parks all give the city a certain 18th-century grandeur. It's also fantastic for shopping. Bordeaux's wine-growing region stretches for 1000 sq km (390 sq mi) around the city, and is divided into 57 appellations (unique production areas), with around 500 chateaux, or vineyards. There are two key areas of attraction, the Medoc and St Emilion. The Medoc, a large wine-growing area which lies northwest of Bordeaux, along the western shore of the Gironde Estuary. This is easily accessible by car ferry from Blaye or from Royan. In fact the round trip makes a great day out - crossings are around 25 minutes.

St Emilion: The village and vineyards of St-Emilion, to the east of Bordeaux are well worth a visit. St-Emilion is a medieval town with steep hilly cobbled streets running through ancient limestone buildings. The cobbled streets link picturesque squares, and the distinctive honey-coloured stone makes St Emilion a beautiful town, but also a magnet for visitors.
In the 8th century a hermit from Brittany, Emilion, settled in a cave that contained a natural spring. Over the next 500 years this cave was hollowed and enlarged and is now the largest monolithic church in France (hollowed from a single rock). This amazing chapel overlooks the main square and culminates in a spire that soars more than 200 feet.

There is so many wonderful sights to see in the area, you can relax and enjoy the ambiance or your can go walking, cycling, golfing, sailing, horse riding, swimming, fishing, tennis .. its just trying to fit it all in...
