Home description
La Grange du Puits is very spacious and welcoming, a real home from home for a family holiday, 25 minutes walk from Gemozac centre and surrounded by field of sunflowers and vineyards The south facing terrace is great for a relaxing breakfast or evening barbecues after a day at one of the lovely sandy beaches or browsing in one of the many markets found in Saintes, Royan, Gemozac and Pons. Alternatiavely, spend a relaxing afternoon on the terrace by the splash pool or enjoy a game of table tennis in the games area and then stroll to our local restaurant a mere 5 minutes walk.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
The Charente-Maritime region boasts the 2nd most sunny area after the Riviera. There are many lovely places to visit in the area and within 25 minutes of La Maison du Puits you will find several historic towns. Saintes has a 1st century amphitheatre and Jonzac a 15th century chateau.
Saintes has a market every day except Monday, however on the 1st Monday of every month there is a grand fair which takes over the whole of the main street and adjacent side streets. Cognac, on the River Charente, is the home of the distillieries of all brands of Cognac and tours are available to discover how the brew is made. Royan is a lovely seaside town with a market every day except Monday. You can walk along the vast expanse of sand or sit in a street cafe and watch the activity. Many boats are moored here and tours are available along the Gironde Estuary or you can take a ferry across to Verdon sur mer and visit the Medoc area with all the wonderful wine producing chateaux.
This area is also perfect for a beach holiday and within 25 minutes you can be on a sandy beach with miles of beautiful sand. Most beaches are regularly cleaned and have a cafe. St Georges de Didonne and Royan have plenty of activity throughout the season. If you are looking for surf then head for the Cote Sauvage, north of Royan, or cross the bridge to Ile d'Oleron or Ile de Re with spectacular surf. Further afield is Bordeaux or La Rochelle and its' surrounding islands, each with interesting and pretty ports and beaches and of course St Emilion famous for the chateaux and endless vineyards. A location with something for everyone.
Gemozac area
Gemozac has a Supermarket 5 mins drive from La Maison du Puits and in the town you will find several bakers, a butchers, pharmacie, tabac and post office. Market day is Friday and every 3rd Friday the stalls reach all through the town. There is a restaurant 150 metres walk from us, a good pizza place in the town and a newly opened Thai restaurant. The bread van visits our house every day except Sunday between 9:30 and 11am. During June, July and August the swimming pool is open every afternoon. Also in the summer months Gemozac holds several festivals and shows which are free to the public. We have a race course in Gemozac found unexpectedly behind a beautiful house in the centre of the town. There are several meetings from June to August which provide very entertaining afternoons. There are many chateaux in the locality where you can seen how Pineau, the local brew, is made. Everywhere you drive you will see vine fields growing the grapes for the Pineau.
How to get there
Fly to Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Angouleme and take advantage of the budget airlines. Each airport approximately 1 hour from Gemozac. www.easyjet.com, www.ryanair.com, www.flybe.com, www.jet2.com. Further details indoors: A travel cot or an extra single bed are available if required and will easily fit into either of the bedrooms. There is a cool box and ice packs for days out and picnics on the beach. We do provide towels for use inside the property, but please bring towels for use at the beach and the swimming pool. Access to internet available from owners home. UK TV channels available. For autumn, winter and spring breaks or long stays there are calor gaz heaters and also electric radiators, plus winter weight duvets and blankets.
Further details outdoors: Patio table with parasol, chairs and loungers are on the terrace. Barbecue and barbecue equipment is also available. The 10 foot splash pool is on the decked area, perfect for cooling off and then relaxing in the sun on the lovely summer days. We also have a paddling pool for little people, which can be placed either on the front terrace or the decked area at the back. For the energetic guests there is a games area where you can play table tennis, basketball and boules.
Further details
A welcome pack is provided on the day of arrival with all the essential items you will need to start your holiday. Should you require anything special then please let us know. Arrival time is 4pm on day of arrival and departure by 10am on day of leaving to enable us to prepare the Barn for every guest. Should your arrival time be before 4pm, then we will endeavour to be ready for you.
Conditions
A 25% non refundable is required to secure your booking and should be returned with your completed booking form. The balance of your holiday must be paid 8 weeks prior to the date of arrival. We ask that you leave the property as you found it - clean and tidy for the next guests.
