The Hebrides region
The picturesque crofting township of Geary, is part of the outstanding peninsula of Waternish. Geary overlooks the spectacular vista of Loch Snizort, the Ascrib Islands, Uig, the Quirang and the Trotternish Ridge. Wildlife is abundant and Sea Eagles are regular visitors. Watch Gannets plunge at alarming speed into the clear sea after their prize from the abundance of sealife. There are many native plants. Hazel, Birch and Willow clothe the 100m cliffs providing habitat for many types of birds and fauna. Meadow flowers such as orchid, ragged robin, bluebell and primrose provide a colour pallet to our native grasses and attract many species of insects and butterflies. Ancient myths and legends about the region abound from the brutal slayings at Trumpan Church to Fairy Bridge and the Fairy Flag.
You can enjoy a stroll, a long hard hike or a challenging climb among this diverse landscape. There are many forestry tracks to enjoy a cycle ride. Walking, scuba diving, snorkelling, wild swimming and kayaking are a small selection of activities to explore! The oldest inn on Skye is here on Waternish! Enjoy a wee dram of Whisky, Drambuie or a glass of locally brewed beer! Have lunch or dinner and enjoy a meal with locally sourced ingredients. Treat yourselves to a candle lit dinner of fresh, locally sourced fish at the ever popular Loch Bay restaurant located in the picturesque village of Stein. Enjoy the dark skies of the area. Try identifying the constellations or enjoy the mysterious Northern Lights. Waternish has one of the darkest skies in the area.
