About the home
This lovely old farmhouse has been completely renovated and modernised to create a really lovely holiday home with enormous character. It has beamed ceilings, massive stone walls, tiled floors, a huge Normandy fireplace and full central heating.
It is a pretty short walk to the village of Grimesnil with its excellent and very welcoming bar/restaurant. The surrounding countryside is gently undulating and totally unspoilt. The walking is exceptional and maps of the numerous droves and footpaths are provided. The local villages boast a host of restaurants, all good, some superb.
The view from the sun terrace is beautiful, just rolling fields and trees. Total peace. A barbecue is available for use.
The coast with its beautiful, unspoilt beaches is only a 15 minute drive away.
The magnificent private, heated swimming pool is available from May to October.

The sun terrace is furnished to allow for al fresco dining. The private, heated 10 x 5m pool is set away from the house with lovely views over the valley and, for peace of mind, security fenced. There is a large pool hut for changing and sun loungers and pool furniture are provided. The terraces are a real sun trap.

The Normandy / Manche region
This very beautiful part of Normandy is so easy to reach from England via Cherbourg or Caen yet remains completely unspoilt. The countryside is real Normandy with brown and white spotty cows, cider orchards and small family farms. The area is renowned for its delicious food; cheese, cider, pommeau and calvados and especially for its fish and shellfish.
The wide, safe, sandy beaches on the nearby coast never seem to get busy and the warm shallow sea is lovely for swimming. At low tide watch the local farmers with their tractors tend the acres of oyster and mussel beds - fascinating.
Within easy reach of the house are the world famous Mont St Michel and the medieval town of Bayeux with its ancient tapestry depicting the battle of Hastings.
To the North East are the historic D Day beaches of the Normandy landings of World War II - Gold, Omaha, Sword and Utah and the fascinating war museums at Arromanche, Caen etc.
Nearby Coutances is a gem of a medieval town with excellent shops, boutiques, bars, restaurants, its world famous cathedral and botanic gardens illuminated in the summer months.
Granville is a wonderful, old, fortified town on the nearby coast with excellent seafood restaurants and ferries to the beautiful islands of Les Iles de Chausey.
The Gavray area
The market town of Gavray with its good shops and supermarket is only 7km to the South and here the weekly calf and pannier market is a must if only to eat one of the huge Normandy sausages barbecued at the side of the road. There are ducklings, chickens, guinea fowl and piglets too. Each village has its own weekly market and many have excellent restaurants.
A pretty ten minute walk from the house brings you to the village of Grismenil where the friendly bar/restaurant, L'Etang, does good food with delicious steaks etc. cooked over the open fire. The restaurant Le Krill is in the pretty village of La Baleine nearby also cooks food in front of you over an open fire.
Local activities include golf, sailing, walking, horse riding, fishing, mountain biking, skating, tennis, bowling and crazy golf. Throughout the year there are many fetes and festivals celebrated in the villages and towns of the area and amazing Vide Greniers (car boot sales) taking over a complete village.
Coutances has a jazz festival in May and Gavray the Foire Normand in July with parades of animals and everyone in traditional costume.
