About the home

This rural detached property situated in an elevated position on the outskirts of Garvao ( 800m from main road ), enjoys panoramic views of the countryside. has a very well equipped kitchen/diner, comfortably furnished lounge and two en-suite bedrooms, one double and one twin bedded.
The area is, ideal for walking ,cycling (bike hire for guests).ponytrekking, fishing in the R.Sado, canoeing trips can be arranged, most important area for bird watchers, of great historical interest (Romans, Moors & Visigoths) and local crafts.
The private pool 10x5x1.4m (reached by a flight of steps with hand rail) which can be covered, is for sole use of cottage guests & surrounded by a large terrace with loungers and parasols. From the terrace uninterupted views of the undulating countryside and spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed.Suitable for both the lazy and energetic holidaymakers this is an ideal touring area away from hustle and bustle, yet within easy reach of both coastlines and the many interesting historic towns and castles of the Alentejo. Many scenic,wine and gastronomic routes are signposted.where both the various wines and cheeses of the locality can be sampled For those interested in archeology an illustrated guide to Garvao's past is among the small library in the villa .

Facilities

The cottage has fly screens and is fully equipped with new appliances and furnishings. We provide , books,games, video,s DVD library and information , maps etc on the area On arrival guests will find a welcome hamper. We also supply toiletries and washing detergents etc. and many other kitchen sundries,including a coolbox . Maid Service,linen and towels changed every 3/4 days.Towels are provided for indoor use only NOT FOR BEACH. Please bring your own towels for use on beach.The loungers are
provided with towels to keep them clean.Outside the villa a grey box contains beach chairs and various games
suitable for visits to the beaches and is for guests to keep their sandy items.

The Cottage overlooks a large mown field through which access to the village (10 min walk) can be obtained,
Situated a few yards from the cottage is a charcoal B B Q. A table and 4 cushioned chairs under awning are provided for alfresco dining.
The grey box outside the cottage contains beach chairs, umbrella, and other beach items for guests use
The open/covered pool (unheated) lies above the cottage and is reached by a flight of steps , with handrail.. The large pool terrace is equipped loungers and parasols.

We require a Damage/Breakage deposit of £100 to be paid with final payment (two months before arrival)
and to be returned within one week of departure (less any damage etc)
The property is not suitable for childern under 7 or wheelchair users. When booking please give ages and
sex of children.
Please note we do not allow smoking in the cottage or by the pool. Ashtrays provided outside.
The towels we provide are for indoor use only. Guests must provide their own pool and beach towels..
Guests may arrive between 4.00pm- 9.00pm. Departure time by 10.00am or as agreed with owners

Conditions

We require a Damage/Breakage deposit of £100 to be paid with final payment (two months before arrival)
to be returned less any deductions within a week of departure.
Please give ages and sex of children when making enquiry. Not suitable for under 7's.

The Alentejo region

This is the ideal destination for families, friends or couples who are looking to relax and unwind. This beautiful, breathtaking landscape is full of cork oaks and olive groves.The Alentejo produces excellent wines and there are many Wine Trails in the vicinity, where wine can be purchased from the vineyards.
In this large rural area huge flocks of sheep and herds of cattle can be seen grazing the massive fields. This area is also famous for its goat and sheep milk cheeses.
Garvao,now a village,was an important settlement in Roman and preRoman times being at the crossroads of
the Algarve Lisbon and Beja, Mertola and the Atlantic routes. Many artefacts have been discovered and there is
a Museum in the village. Several old windmills dot the countryside signs that for generations this area has been the bread-basket of Iberia.
Spring weather is usually sunny and dry with occassioal showers,summer is warm to hot-sometimes very hot
in August without rain,autumn is slightly cooler,but still sunny and often an Indian summer in mid October,then
it usually rains.

The Garvao area

Garvao hosts several fairs and festas during theyear, the largest in May, with rodeo, agricultural show and
Portuguese Bullfight.Many festas and Fado singing groups perform in the surrounding villages At these
events many local craftsmen sell their goods,fresh local produce,cheeses and ham can be bought in the
nearby markets. This area is rich in history and ruins. There is a large Park Natural at Castro Verde where
many rare species of birds can be seen (Bird watching walks can be arranged). Accompanied horse riding is available locally.
From Funcheira Station (5k) trains run to Beja, Lisbon and the Algarve. From Ourique there is a bus
service to Lisbon and the Algarve,for those who do not wish to drive.
