The Andalucia region
Garrucha is a popular tourist destination due to its superb sandy beaches which draw tourists from all over Europe as well as Spain.
Despite its growing popularity for tourism Garrucha remains a small resort which still retains its charm as a lively fishing port on the Costa de Almeria.
The beauty of Garrucha is that the area has retained its traditional Andalucian style.
Garrucha is located between Vera Playa and the much larger tourist resort of Mojacar.
Garrucha is family-friendly with most activities and things to do centering around the sandy beaches, sea and swimming which is great for children of all ages. Garrucha is very much a safe tourist resort with little crime.
As well as being a popular place for holidays and vacations, many people from all over Europe have bought property in Garrucha and have decided to live permanently in Garrucha, these people are known as expats with most expatriates originally coming from the United Kingdom.
The area of Almeria is ideal for those looking to escape the main tourist traps and to practice your Spanish speaking skills. Unlike many parts of Spain Garrucha is full of the Andalucían way of life. From lively weekly markets to the hustle and bustle of the fishing port. The locals still work and fish in this area bring the daily catch into the fish restaurants along the marina.
The area is very popular with Europeans with a mix of English, Spanish, French & Italians spending their holidays in this area.Almeria is an area steeped in Andalusian tradition, with the historic villages of Mojacar, Turre, Vera, Los Gallardos and Garrucha all close by.
The fishing village of Garrucha is about a twenty-minute stroll along the promenade from the complex.
Here you can relax in one of the many fresh fish restaurants and watch the local fishermen as they arrive with their daily catch.
Many amenities are to be found in Garrucha - restaurants, bars, shops and an amazing weekly day and evening markets and many traditional shops. Amazing fresh fish restaurants along the Marina, water sports and much much more!!
The fiestas are held during the month of august with fun fair, rides, street shows and activities.
The Costa de Almeria is a region of unique beauty and has until recently been southern Spain´s undiscovered gem. The long golden sandy beaches and the hilltop villages.
With an average of 330 days of sunshine a year the Costa de Almeria has something for everyone
Garrucha is a beautiful and lively fishing town that still retains much of its original charm. Over the last few years it has become a popular tourist destination.
Garrucha has a strong fishing industry, its main source of income, with a large port for both commercial and leisure pursuits.
A great selection of restaurants and bars with many excellent seafood restaurants found along the seafront serving the fresh catch of the day.
They are supplied with fresh fish from nearby port, if you find yourself down on the seafront at dawn you will experience the typically Mediterranean sight of a flotilla of small fishing boats setting out to sea. Later the fishermen host a daily fish auction each afternoon at a quayside fish market.
The seaside resort of Vera Playa covers the beach area between Puerto Rey and Villaricos. Interestingly, it is said to be the place where Hannibal's elephants landed in Roman times.
The area has earned the prestigious blue flag for its 8km of white sandy beaches.
Local water Park in the area, Parque Acuatico. Here you can take a thrilling ride on one of the many flumes or sit and relax by one of three swimming pools.
With an excellent selection of water shoots and slides and a children's section with a play area and their own water slides. The park is open from May until the end of September.
For your shopping needs there is the Puerto Rey development close to Vera, Garrucha and the quaint mountain village of Mojacar.
Valle de Este 18 hole course, Cortijo Grande 9 hole course, Desert Springs 18 hole course, La Envia 18 hole course
Just a few minutes drive along the coast from Garrucha is the lively resort of Mojacar Beach - here you will find water sports and many restaurants, bars and shops.
A drive up into the mountains brings you to the typically Andalucian Mojacar Village which is full of old historical buildings and a beautiful church to explore.
With shops selling traditional antiques and jewellery, restaurants with typical Andalucian cooking and tapas bars all set amongst the cobbled lanes.
Many other towns/villages are well worth a drive through the stunning mountain scenery.
Almost the entire coast between Mojacar and Almeria is covered by the Cabo de Gata National Park - an extensive area of sand dunes, wetlands and salt marshes serving as a breeding ground for some eighty species of birds and migrants, including flamingos and storks.
Boat/fishing trips, horse riding, a micro light flight, a visit to the Caves of Sorbas, or Mini-Hollywood (a wild-west town deep in the mountains) are just some of the trips you may wish to take.
There are several online companies that can offer car hire from Almeria Airport.
Or should you prefer we can organise a private taxi to collect you from the airport and take you direct to your apartment.
The other option would be to book the coach transfer when booking your flights with Easy jet or Ryanair.
The coach will then drop you near to the complex.
inspection trips and long-term winter lets now proving very popular to escape the miserable English weather.
For those who like the lively resorts Mojacar is just 10 minutes drive, ideal to spend the day with the hustle and bustle of tourism and escaping back to tranquil Garrucha at the end of the day.
