“Casa dei gabbiani”in Peschici, Gargano, is the ideal place for those who love silence, quietness, nature, who like admiring the deep blue sea from the balcony overhanging it , the coloured sunsets and the seagulls flying in the air. On the other hand the two apartments are cosy places for those who like drinking a glass of wine or an Italian coffee chatting with friends.
The apartments are situated in the Baronial enclosure of Peschici castle , the fortress which was built in Medieval times in a strategic position to defend Gargano from Saracens raids. Outside the building maintains its antique character, while inside the apartments are entirely reconstructed. They are on the edge of a 90 mt cliff in the oldest part , the heart, of the village in a pedestrian area. From the wide verandas the sight is breathtaking.
The larger apartment can host up to 6/7 persons. It is peculiar and consists of a living room with double loft with two beds, kitchen (fridge , four burners) sat TV, 2 bedrooms, two bathrooms with shower and veranda with the view of “porto”.
The second one can host up to 4 persons. It is an open space with living room/kitchen with sofa bed, double beds, bathroom with shower and veranda with the view of Baia di Manacore.
With a nice 15 minutes walk from “Porta wascia”, the antique access to the village and to the castle for those who arrived from the sea, on a quite steepy path you can reach the wide village beach. But, if you are not in the mood for walking, you can arrive at the beach by car or, best of all, you can visit other small beaches along the coast, not far from the village.

The Puglia/Molise region

Apulia is famous for being the place where the sound of the sea and the wind are coupled with the unique, breathtaking panorama of Gargano promontory in the north of the region.
In Gargano nature is the queen. This hilly promontory in the north of Puglia, is strong, wild and very varied: terraced fields, olive plantations, lemons and oranges orchards, Aleppo pines, lakes, steep white coast alternating with large sandy shores, small bays, deep inlets, caves and marine cliffs. Gargano is also a 120.000 hectares National Park with forests, lagoons, marine reserves and mountains.
It has lot to offer to tourists.
If you love history and art Trulli di Alberobello, Grotte di Castellana, Castel del Monte, Bari, Lecce and its baroque, Sassi di Matera are within an easy reach.
Every season of the year is worth a visit: choose spring if you love nature and want to look for wild asparagus and for orchids, the queens of the flower kingdom. In Gargano in the woods and hills there is the highest concentration of wild orchids in Europe: 85 species with a stunning range of colours.
Choose summer if you love sea, beaches, music, people and autumn if you appreciate mushrooms, good fish, tranquillity and silence.
You can also visit the typical “trabucchi”, antique wooden platforms designed for fishing, now most of them converted into rustic restaurants.
Both in spring and in autumn the weather is mild and you can have nice swims in the sea and get sun tanned.

Gargano / Peschici area

Peschici and Gargano is the right place if you like to be taken up in the southern –Italian – atmosphere.
The village Peschici is the “gem” of Gargano, it is a cliff-top village which dates back to 950 A.D.. The village itself is a cumulous of little white houses scattered against the rock. From afar you are dazzled by the white houses in the sun; at night the village looks like a “crib”… At the foot of Peschici is a white sandy beach and, if you hire a boat, especially in spring and late summer, you discover lonely bays and coves of extraordinary charm. Excursion boats take you to “grotte” and to Tremiti islands, quite an unspoilt area with a small local community with wonderful beaches, a paradise for divers.
And what about food all year round ? The local cuisine, the typical “cucina mediterranea” is rich and varied and includes genuine flavours such as olive oil, caciocavallo and pecorino cheese, fish, tomatoes, handmade pasta….

How to get there

You can get to Peschici by car: Brennero - Italian border - A22 - A14 Bologna/Bari - exit Poggio Imperiale - Superstrada Gargano (exit Vico del Gargano) - Peschici
Fly to Pescara ( low budget flights Ryanair) - by car take A 14 (direction South, Bari) - exit Poggio Imperiale - Superstrada Gargano ( exit Vico del Gargano) - Peschici.
Low budget flights arriving also at Bari airport (Ryanair)
If you want to use the train from Pescara or Bari, see www.trenitalia.it, stop at San Severo and take train or bus line to Peschici ( www.ferroviedelgargano.com)
