Casa Michelle
About the home
This is an opportunity for nature lovers who want to spend relaxing holidays in contact with sea, forests, mountains, lakes, animals and flowers in Parco Nazionale del Gargano, Apulia, on the Adriatic coast in the south of Italy.
Apulia is famous for being the place where the sound of the sea and the wind are coupled with the unique, breathtaking panorama of Gargano promontory.
Here in the heart of Apulia you’ll find Peschici, one of the most suggestive little villages of the coast. In its antique centre there is Casa Michelle, a small independent apartment on the second floor of a house recently renovated.
Apart from the dogs barking, children playing around and women chatting and singing, in low season you do not hear a noise while staying at Casa Michelle, because it is beautifully located in a narrow, silent alley in the pedestrian area, near “Piazza” and “Castello”, the heart of the old village. In high season the village and the small alleys are crowded with lot of tourists who at night sit in the bars to drink a glass of wine and listen to music.
Casa Michelle can comfortably room four people or be a really great and spacious home for a couple. The apartment( about 60 m2), fully air-conditioned, consists of 2 floors.
The first floor hosts a large room with a sofa bed/dining area/kitchen corner (4 burners, oven, freezer) and bathroom with shower.
On the second floor you can find a loft with a double bed, a wardrobe and another bathroom with shower. This is one of the best spots of the apartment, as you can admire the deep blue of the sea directly from the bed that is in front of a large private and secluded terrace. On the terrace, of course, you can enjoy all your meals.
Casa Michelle is good also on the outside! In fact, a spiral staircase takes you to enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea from a solarium, shared with the guests of Casa Eloise ( n. 26530).
With a nice 10 minutes walk on a quite steepy path from the historical centre, you can reach the wide village beach where you find a beach umbrella and 2 deckchairs for each apartment included in the rent. You can also arrive at the beach by car or, best of all, you can visit other small beaches along the coast, not far from the village. In September and October the weather is still mild and you can lie on the beach and get sun tunned.

The Puglia/Molise region

Apulia is a very long region in the South of Italy on the Adriatic Coast. It looks like a boot and has a lot to offer to tourists besides the beautiful sea, oil, wine and Mediterranean food. You must visit it if you are looking for sun , unspoilt nature, blue sea, both white sandy and rocky stony beaches, art and history. Trulli di Alberobello, Grotte di Castellana, Castel del Monte, Bari, Lecce and its baroque, Sassi di Matera are within an easy reach.
Gargano is a hilly promontory in the north of Apulia. The nature in Gargano is strong, wild and very varied : terraced fields, olive plantations, lemons and oranges orchards, pines, lakes, steep white coast alternating with large sandy shores , small bays, deep inlets, caves and marine cliffs. Gargano is also a 120.000 hectares National Park, with forests , lagoons, marine reserves and mountains rich of mushrooms in autumn and wild asparagus in spring..
At 60 km from Peschici is the town of San Giovanni Rotondo, where Padre Pio lived. He was declared saint by Pope Giovanni Paolo II in 2002 ,The sanctuary and the new church,. built by the architect Renzo Piano, attract millions of pilgrims every year.
The Gargano / Peschici area
Peschici and Gargano are the places you will enjoy the most if you want to plunge into the southern Italian atmosphere.
Peschici is called the “gem” of Gargano, it is a cliff-top village which dates back to 950 A.D.. The village itself is a cumulous of white low houses scattered against the rock. From afar you are dazzled by the white houses in the sun; at night the village looks like a “crib”…The palette of many artists painted the bluish- green of the sea, the blue sky and the green Aleppo pines leaning over the water. At the foot of Peschici is a white sandy bay and, if you hire a boat, you discover lonely romantic little beaches. Excursion boats take you to “grotte” and to Tremiti islands, quite an unspoilt area with a small local community, with wonderful beaches, a paradise for divers.
Every season of the year is worth a visit: choose spring if you love nature and want to look for wild asparagus and for ORCHIDS, the queens of the flower kingdom. Within the bush and on the hills of Gargano there is the highest concentration of orchids in Europe: 85 species with a stunning range of colours.
Choose summer if you love sea, beaches, music, people and autumn if you appreciate mushrooms, good fish and tranquillity and silence.
Both in spring and in autumn the weather is mild and you can have nice swims in the sea and get suntanned.
And what about food all year round ? The local cuisine, the typical “cucina mediterranea” is rich and varied and includes genuine flavours such as olive oil, caciocavallo and pecorino cheese, fish, tomatoes, pasta….

Guestbook for Casa Michelle
What an absolutely amazing trip we had to your beautiful part of the world. Needless to say, we are still in a bit of shock having been back just 24 hours and of course, it's pouring with rain here in England. But, really, we have fallen in love with the area as we suspected we would and renting from you made the trip extra special. Thank you again for your patience with our late arrival and I promise that the next time we come, my Italian will be much improved!
Molto grazie e ciao!
Nichole and Charles
Dear Lucia, Hope you are well. A few thoughts on my stay in your apartment: loved the apartment, it was clean, cool, comfortable, well decorated, fabulous terrace and i loved being in the old town and being able to meet the neighbours etc. I found Peschici a lovely place to be, a bit crowded at times and a bit noisy at night but overall a place i would like to return to. I found it very pleasant and easy to deal with you both, make the booking etc. Oh yes, and having the sun-beds included made the beach a great experience, especially meeting Pepito!! Say hello to him from us in Ireland. All the best and i hope this is useful. Hope to see you again. Nikki
Dear Lucia,
We had a really lovely time in Peschici. We though the apartment was wonderful, and very well equipped. It was very spacious for two people. We bought beautiful local produce and cooked a few evenings. We loved having breakfast in the mornings on the terrace off the bedroom. The location was fantastic, and the price was very reasonable. Peschici itself was a lovely place. We went to the beach at San Nicola 3 days, and found it delightful. We also went walking in Umbra Forest on two days, which we enjoyed immensely. I would recommend the apartment to anyone travelling to the Gargano.
Many thanks,
Clodagh Curran
Dear Lucia,
Charlie and I enjoyed staying immensely staying in your apartment in September. It is beautifully situated in the old part of Peschici and we could hear the chatter of local people through the open windows. It was thoughtful of you to leave the wine and local spirit for us to try.
The apartment has been imaginatively converted and had everything for our requirements. The balcony with its view of the sea and the roof area with loungers were delightful places to relax in the late aftenoon.
Peschici itself is still fairly unspoilt with excellent fish restaurants and an entertaining passegiatta.
Kind regards to you both.
Beth
We really enjoyed our time in Pescichi, although we were surprised at how windy it could be. However, the area is very beautiful and the town itself is very charming. Above all we found the people to be so friendly and warm. Casa Michelle is a very lovely apartment with all amenities. The gallery bedroom leading onto the balcony is quite unique. Everything ran smoothly and Lucia and Enzo were very helpful and accomodating. We would have no hesitation in recommending the apartment and the place if a genuine italian seaside holiday is what you're after. The food and wines of the area are delicious.

Hi Lucia,
Jo and I are very well thanks, the pregnancy is going well. Baby will be
with us in August, not long now!
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Peschici, the journey home was
quite long and very tiring but worth it to have experienced staying in
the town and in your apartment.
We would absolutely love to come back to Peschici or indeed visit the
lake. That will be a few years yet but it will happen...
Best regards,
Craig ( April 2011)
