Home description

The name of the inn derives from the valley housing it. According to the legend, in the past some people settled not far from the abbey of Santa Maria di Kàlena (one of the most ancient in Italy, 872).The "castellana" was the lady of the castle, of which nothing remains today. She died throwing herself from the tower, after her partner had died during the Crusades.

The inn is situated among the hills of the giant Gargano. Dry-stone walls, lemons, figs, prickly pears, olive trees and pines form its background, exalted by the breeze coming from the sea, a panorama which alone would be worth a stay of a couple of days. It represents a safe, pleasant, and regenerating departure point to discover the promontory, its gorges, beaches, woods, and sanctuaries. "La Castellana" is a holiday farm, only 1 Km far from the town centre of Peschici and 1,5 Km far from the sea.

Extra-virgin olive oil, wine, fruit, and vegetables are produced and offered to the guests during the simple candlelight dinners in the large terrace overlooking the sea. The breakfast, offered until late in the morning, meets the needs of all the clients: warm croissants, cold cuts, local cheese, home-made cakes and jams, fruit. Overnight stay and breakfast (B&B) is offered in different kinds of rooms and flats as the best solution also for families loving a comfortable flat with kitchenette and a hotel-like stay.

The restaurant is also at the disposal of the idle tourist for typical and not expensive dinners, to spend the evening chatting until late at night, sipping a fine wine near the swimming-pool. We speak English, German, and French. A homely and informal atmosphere without neglecting comfort, freedom and the quality of our Italian service.

The Puglia/Molise region

The territory of the Daunia and the Gargano introduces a great variety of sceneries: the sweet hills of the valley of the river Fortore, of the Subappennino Dauno and of the valley of the river Ofanto, the area of the National Park of the Gargano, the lowland of the Tavoliere of the Puglies and the uncontaminated archipelago of the Tremblings.

The Rooms CLASSIC are composed with a matrimonial bed and bed added, complete bath, situated on the basement. Two rooms are at the first floor with private big balcony that have a supplement of euros 8 per day per room.

The SUITE/Family room are composed from two separate rooms, of which a matrimonial room that accesses to the private big balcony and the living room with coach/bed, two respective complete baths. Point of strength of our house is the breakfast. We believe, in fact that the good morning is seen by the pleasant awakening. Besides the classical italian breakfast with croissant and cappuccino, hams and cheeses of high quality selected carefully from Mr. Marino. Vegetables and fruits come selected from Mr. Antonio, farmer himself since childhood that's why he knows what to choose to the market. Fruits and different vegetables is cultivated in the house by himself biologically, we can guarantee the genuineness of it among which also the extra virgin olive oil made with cold press and with absence of any chemical pesticidas. And then the jams of oranges the of the of DOP (denomination of protected origin), apples, plums the fig trees and apricots that the Mrs. Antonietta prepares during the year. For last, but not less important, served of sweets of the in the house as the Mrs. Maria, by now specialized in sweets "diet" privileging always the oil extra virgin of olive to the butter and wisely dosing the quantities of sugar. The lunch after breakfast is rarely asked by our clients, they spend usually the day out or on the beach, but for who want stay in our swimming pool or in our new wellness area, is always available for lunch fresh products as salads, mozzarellas, typical products as hams and cheese, fruit at the cost per person of euros 10,00.
