The Puglia/Molise region
Puglia at its most fascinating and bold: all dramatic coastline, stunning beaches and ancient olive groves. The Vallecoppa estate is off the beaten track, the Gargano national park countryside is unspoilt and still a habitat for wild flowers, interesting birdlife and animals such as wild pigs, boar and deer.
The Gargano Peninsula is listed on an exclusive list of cultural heritage areas of Europe. Covering religion, arts, handicrafts, biology, zoology and folkloristic heritage. More than 300 specimens of orchids are found here, and more than 2000 zoological species are unique to the area.
During Spring & Autumn the climate is warm alike northern European summer temperature.
This area is reknowned for its numerous religious and cultural festivals: Vico has a St Valentino fiesta on the 14th Feb. Vieste has its main religious fiesta between 6th - 10th May, in honour of St Maria di Merino the local saint of the sea. The main procession is on the 9th May when you can follow the saint on her march from Vieste to the St Maria di Merino church 5 minutes from Vallecoppa. This is an all day event with a candle lit procession back to Vieste in the evening and a massive firework display to rival any new year celebration. Peschici has its main religious fiesta between 17th - 22nd July, in honour of St Elia also with several grand firework displays and fantastic party atmosphere.
The beach closest to Vallecoppa 'Spiagga Lunga' is the centre of watersports on the peninsular with many watersport centres open for all levels of expertise from the beginner to the expert in windsurfing and kitesurfing. This beach becomes a hive of activity in May & June when the weather is at a peak for watersports.
During October, November & December try an adventurous excursion with a fantastic local chef, Mario runs Ristorante al Trabucco which has recently been awarded Best Seafood Restaurant in Puglia 2010 by the gourmet guide “LA PUGLIA E SERVITA”. The excursions vary and could be mushroom picking in the Foresta Umbra, fishing off the Trabucco (old wooden fishing platform jutting off a cliff) or visiting the local fruit & vegetable garden to pick your supper. You then join Mario in his kitchen to cook what you have picked or caught and enjoy with some carefully selected Puglian wine.
An olive picking & oil pressing day can also be arranged with the owner, please arrange directly as dates for picking vary dependent upon the climate/conditions throughout the year.

"Remote mansion in a secluded valley surrounded by nature"
Had a delightful stay here last year. This place is a gem. It feels unbelievably remote, though just a short drive up in the hills from the coast. Local beach is long and sandy, and not too busy. A fe… More

We had a fabulous stay here. The accommodation itself is lovely - really good sized rooms with good quality furniture and smart bathrooms. The surroundings, and hence the views from the balcony, are awesome - you are entirely surrounded by olive groves and woods, with literally no neighbours in sight.
