GETTING TO BANBA HOUSE see our own site for details..............

Galway City

You can see the castle from the house just two minutes walk away.: Athenry (meaning the King's Ford) is an ancient historic surburb village, set just a 10 min train ride, just few minutes from Main Street Galway with its medieval past, with narrow streets and town walls. The best preserved section of the original town wall is found at the North Gate and is a major feature of Athenry. “Heritage Status” has been awarded to the town, making it an ideal place to live and holiday. For anyone planning to visit the West, I recommend that you read the history so that you get the most out of your time here. Plan a visit to the Castle and Heritage Centre, just a few minutes walk from the house.

GETTING TO BANBA

M6 to R348 to R347: From the motorway/highway (M6) take the R348 until you get to the roundabout joining the R347. Head into town towards the skyscrapers, (only joking), keep going straight and head into town, past the small round look out historic tower as you enter Athenry.

Bridge Street: As the road curves around to the left, the main castle comes into view in the distance on your right. There's a park/playground on your right and an historic cemetery/church on your left. The post office is just ahead of you now (a small brick building with a green “post” sign). You take a right before the post office.

Court Lane: The castle is in front of you and you will pass by it on your right. You should drop in and have a look while your here. The road curves around to the left and you drive straight on past the Athenry's famous arch historic archway (you'll see it to your left) and veer right (you'll see a petrol station on your right).

Tuam Road: Turn left at the next street (Tuam Road). Continue straight on this road. You'll go through the traffic lights and over the hump-back bridge (you'll go over train tracks and will see the train station on your left). Slow down, take the next right at the bottom of the bridge, it's the first gate in the left...you've arrived. Welcome.

What can I say Linda, you ladies where so gracious during your visit and its such a pleasure for me to have you as guests at Banba. Firstly thank you so much for making a very special piece of art as a present to me while you stayed in Banba. It now takes pride of place in my kitchen and everyone who comes into my cottage remarks on your inspired talent. The owner of the local pub where you pulled your own pint of creamy guinness was asking about you guys.I think its great that you experienced the real Ireland in a small local village and had a chance to meet some real local Irish people. It is such a thrill for me to realize that the place inspired you during your visit. "A heartwarming host and a beautiful house!"

My family, girlfriend and I stayed at this house during part of our tour of Europe; three days in Ireland. Ray and his friend were waiting for us at the train station. They had a very warm greeting and immediately made us feel at home. When we arrived at the house they had ready for us a meal of 2 cooked chickens, salad, fresh bread and wine, which we really needed after 2 straight days of travel. He has a nice binder of info to get you started in the town of Athenry and Galway with food, pubs, music, sightseeing and other services. On his recommendation we went to Clifden which was absolutely lovely. The house was spacious and well furnished, there are many beautiful rooms and the beds were very comfortable. The area was extremely convenient by the train station, but also very quiet, with no road noise, etc. Checkout was simple: Ray gave us our deposit the day before we left and we made sure to load the dishes into the dishwasher, put the used sheets/towels on the floor and take out our trash.

, thanks so much guys, I always feel that you should be able to contact me if you need something during your stay. Its good to be available to advise people who take the trouble to come and stay at Banba House. We take great pride in Banba House and value all the new people who we meet on their travels from around the world. Now that we have just had our wi fi booster installed, we expect we will be able to reply faster better sooner to any info requests we receive. Our moto is...We are here to help... Very Best Regards
Ray and Rita.
