About the home
Lavender Cottage is a very snug, homely cottage on the outskirts of the village of Carsphairn. It is situated between Loch Ken and Loch Doon, both 20 minutes drive away, within the vast forest park.
This is a very beautiful, tranquil part of Scotland, and is ideally situated to cater for all activities within country life. There are stunning views from the cottage windows (see below), which you can enjoy whilst relaxing beside the log fire. If you are feeling more active you can enjoy the walking, cycling, fishing, golf, sight seeing and water sport opportunities all available locally.
The village shop, post office and heritage centre are all nearby.

Modern semi detached on-the-level bungalow cottage with attractive open country outlook to the front. Good size lounge/dining room with Sky television, video and DVD players. Fully fitted kitchen, 2 double bedrooms - one with a king size bed and the other with metal bunk beds - suitable for adults or children. In addition a folding bed is available which can be set up in the large lounge. Bathroom with new suite fitted.
Lavender Cottage benefits from oil central heating and a thermostat you control for your own comfort. In addition there is also a traditional open fire. Double glazed windows are throughout the cottage.

The cottage benefits from an enclosed garden at the rear, which is a suntrap.
There is a parking space at the front of the cottage.
The Dumfries and Galloway region


Lavender Cottage is in the Galloway Forest Park within the Dumfries and Galloway region of South West Scotland. This is a true golfers' paradise - known as the birthplace of golf, Scotland is home to hundreds of golf courses with 25 in this region.
it is remote enough to be a very relaxing getaway spot, but within driving distance from Ayr beach, Glasgow and stunning Edinburgh with its amazing architecture and history.
The Galloway Forest Park area
Galloway Forest Park area:
Enjoy a peaceful stroll on one of our woodland trails, or if you fancy something a little more strenuous, head out to the hills and climb the Merrick, South Scotland's highest peak. The area is steeped in history with many abbeys and castles to visit with memorials to Robert the Bruce. In Alloway, 30 minutes away you will find Burns Cottage, home to Scotland's bard - Robbie Burns.
Wildlife:
Galloway has some of Scotland's most amazing wildlife, including the red squirrel, otter pine marten, black grouse, golden eagle, red deer, red kite, buzzard, peregrine falcon, puffin and even nightjar.
Dark skies:
Galloway Forest Park has some of the best dark skies in Europe - ideal for star gazing.
Fishing:
There are some fantastic lochs and rivers here, all in beautiful surroundings, featuring a variety of fish from Brown Trout to Salmon. With permits from £6.00 it's a great way to spend the day.
Mountain biking:
Some seriously amazing mountain bike trails are here in Dumfries and Galloway. From beginner to adrenaline seeker, there is something for everyone. For more information see the website www.7stane.gov.uk.

FROM THE NORTH
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is 45 minutes drive from the cottage. Turn right at the roundabout outside the airport. At the first roundabout go straight ahead. At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit signposted Ayr. Then at the next 4 roundabouts take the 2nd exit signposted Stranraer. At the next roundabout take the first exit left onto the A713 signposted for Castle Douglas. Travel along this road for 24 miles until you reach the village of Carsphairn. Our holiday home is the very first property on the left hand side (No 1 McAdams Way), opposite the Heritage Centre.
Glasgow International Airport is 90 minutes drive from the cottage.
Edinburgh airport is 120 minutes drive from the cottage.
FROM THE SOUTH
Follow the M6 motorway north to Carlisle, then as you cross the border into Scotland take the left fork on the road onto the A75 signposted Stranraer. When you reach Castle Douglas turn right onto the A713 signposted for Ayr. Travel along this road for 24 miles and you will reach the village of Carsphairn. Our holiday home is the last property on the right hand side, opposite the Heritage Centre.
Newcastle airport is 2 hours and 30 minutes drive from the cottage.
Manchester airport is approximately 4 hours drive from the cottage.

A deposit of £70 is required on booking, with the balance payable 6 weeks before the start of the holiday.
Bookings for less than a full week are charged as follows:
3 nights of less - 60% of weekly rate
Additional nights - 10% of weekly rate
The cottage is let on a Saturday to Saturday basis. Short breaks are available though.
