We practically guarantee blue skies!
Whether it's for cycling, wine or just to relax and breathe the air, you'll love coming to Malaucene. The apartment is in the centre of the old village of Malaucene, at the foot of Mt. Ventoux, a cyclists' mecca, and surrounded by the wine regions of Cote de Rhone, Chateauneuf de Pape, Cote des Dentelles and Cote Ventoux. Climbers come from round the world to scale the lacy peaks of Les Dentelles de Montmirail, and if you just love walking, you'll be spoiled for choice. A 10-minute drive takes you to Vaison-la-Romaine where you'll discover the walled medieval city, still inhabited, then you can cross the 2500 yr old Roman bridge to the bustling village of Vaison, where you'll find France's largest archaelogical dig in the midst of commerce. In the museum at the site you'll see some impressive mosaics, left behind by the Romans who thought this was a wonderful climate to enjoy and to make wines.
Half an hour away is Avignon, with the Palais des Papes (Popes' Palace) from the time when the seat of the Holy See was in France. In summer, the pope and about 250 of his staff would move to Malaucene for its agreeable climate. Within an hour and a half's leisurely drive is Marseille, Arles (where Van Gogh resided) or the rugged seaside of the Calenques, or the Camargue, with its wild horses, flamingos and wild bulls.
In winter, conditions permitting, you can ski at Mt. Serein, the intermediate point on the ascent of Mt.Ventoux.
The apartment itself is a newly-renovated studio with a private entrance and a window onto Grand Rue, the main road interesecting the old village. It has a very comfortable flip-out sofa bed, flat screen tv and dvd player, free WiFi, a kitchen with vaulted stone ceiling, and a walk-in shower that you won't want to step out of.
Malaucene is a village with all services, and it's a 2-minute walk to grocery, banks, post office, pharmacy, and a selection of cafes and restaurants. Parking is public. Strict no smoking policy.
I own the house and live upstairs, so if there's anything you need, I speak French and English and some German.
