Orton Hall is a 17th Century Manor House carefully converted into self-catering suites sharing a Great Hall and six acres of gardens and woodland.

The Royalist Suite on the ground floor is a period gem with a fully wood-panelled living room, impressive fireplace and a "secret door" through the bookcase. It radiates character and style and the period decor creates a truly unique atmosphere. In the evening with the curtains drawn and the lighting dimmed, the living room has a magical ambiance - perfect for a honeymoon, special occasion or relaxing away-from-it-all holiday retreat.

For relaxation, there is a TV, DVD player and CD player together with a comprehensive library of books, videos & DVDs. The communal Great Hall, with its grand fireplace, pool table & baby grand piano, provides a great space for entertaining and relaxing. Included in your stay is complimentary membership of the North Lakes Spa in Penrith for the duration of your holiday, which is about a 20 minute drive from Orton, where, if you are feeling energetic, you can take advantage of the indoor swimming pool and gymnasium or relax in the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. You can also book beauty treatments or massages in advance. It's a great place to end the day after a walk in the hills around Derwent Water or Ullswater.

The Royalist Suite can accommodate two in the bedroom in a king-size bed with space for a travel cot to sleep a baby or toddler. Two comfortable folding camp beds are also available for extra adult guests in the living room. The separate bathroom has a bath with overhead shower.

Enjoy the views of the wide lawns, gardens and fountain from the dining table in the deep bay window. Satisfy your culinary creativity in the fully equipped kitchen with an electric cooker, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and plenty of pots, pans and utensils. And if you don't feel like cooking, the local village pub is only 300 metres away and serves good country fayre. And many good restaurants are in easy reach of Orton Hall by car.

The Royalist Suite is a fully self-catering apartment but you will find a complimentary welcome supply of tea, coffee, sugar, milk & biscuits. The suite is also stocked with a basic supply of consumables including washing up liquid, hand wash, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, tinfoil, toilet rolls, salt & pepper & cooking oil.

The Royalist Suite offers restful, restorative calm for your short break in atmospheric surroundings in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park at the head of the Lune Valley in Cumbria, it is the perfect base for exploring this stunning part of England by car, on foot on by bicycle.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Stephanie (the owner) a message.

If Stephanie (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
