There is lots for kids, including local steam trains, animal parks, Diggerland, Farming World, Chatham Historic Dockyard and the new Dickens World. Great walks and views along the Pilgrim's Way and fine country pubs.
The cottage lies beside the Saxon Shore Way which takes you on a walk around the old coastline of Kent as it was in Roman times. The path connects with the 1066 Countryside Walk and the Royal Military Canal Path which you can join beside the church in the village.
Appledore also lies on a regional cycle route and offers rides through the marshes towards the sea and northwards through Tenterden
