About this location
The Andalucia region
The Andalucia / Granada Province region
The region covering Baza and Huescar is known as The Altiplano. It is referred to as the Spanish lake district due to the number of lakes , natural parks and stunning scenery. This contrasting district set in the north east of the province of Granada sits at over 800 metres above sea level. Its central area, is hemmed in by a ring of mountain ranges. This is where you'll find Galera, situated in a green valley formed by 2 rivers that wind their way between hills. In these hills lie the remains of ancient civilizations. Because of its verdant nature the village has become known as "The Oasis of the High Plateau"
General conditions: Humidity 10% to 20%, summer temperature range 20C to 44C
During the months July and August the evening temperatures are a pleasant 18C to 23C and during the day the highest temperatures are usually around 30C to 34C.
During this time it hardly rains, but you can get typical Mediterranean storms lasting 15 to 20 minutes
The Huescar / Galera area
The majority of towns and villages in the area have municipal swimming pools some are only open in the peak season but On the outskirts of the village of Orce approx 5 km from Galera there is a Natural spring water swimming pool with fish.
There is a hot water mineral springs and spar at Lake Negratin's Banos de Zujar where you can pamper yourself after a long day site-seeing and beaches around the lake. The Mediterranean beaches are approximately an hour and three quarters away .
There is also a large water park in Granada.
The Alhambra Palace at Granada is only apprximately 1.5hrs drive away

"Get away from it all in a delightful "hobbit house""
It was very easy to book and the owners sent excellent directions to find it as it is a little remote.Having said that it is utterly charming,,set on a hillside surrounded by other cuevas.....an ideal retreat from the world allthough only a 10 min stroll to the village with shops restaurants and bars.It was well equipped and clean. It would be a great romantic gettawy but unfortunately I went with my sister!! We are both in our fifties so our children joked about"two old bats in a cave!!" Fascinating scenery, lovely walks ,sunny but chilly weather(it WAS December)and just eccaping Christmas. My only negative was that we could not find any local info such as location of shops ,barsi etc and opening times n the cave.
It is so valuable to get feed back. We are working on local info and can email it to anyone interested. We will make sure that we take plenty of copies to leave at the cave when we visit again! I think that we may have to change the name to " Hobbit House" Thank you for the review! Di and Carl
