Home description
Croit an Fhraoich (pronounced Frooch) is Gaelic for Croft of the Heather. It enjoys an uninterrupted panorama of the Torridon hills, the sea and the Isle of Skye. The apartment is set within the owner/manager's five acre croft which guests are free to enjoy. Added attractions include Jock the Clydesdale horse and a four-strong herd of Cashgora goats! The aptly named sandy beach of Big Sand is a pleasant 10 minute stroll from the croft.
This is the perfect destination for anyone who wants to enjoy any aspect of the spectacular natural world; walking, wildlife watching, or simply chilling out. The picturesque village of Gairloch, renowned for its seafood, is a ten minute drive.

The Highlands region
The area is renowned for its unspoilt natural beauty. It is ideal for people who are fascinated by the craggy mountains famous for their beautiful characteristics, Beinn Eighe, An Teallach and Liathach are amongst the most well known. There is an exquisite opportunity for persons with an interest in botany, as the extensive sand dunes ,cliff tops and hills provide a unique habitat for uncommon plants such as Orchids, Bilberry, Wild Honeysuckle, Juniper - whose berries make a traditional addition to any dish containing venison. The slopes of Beinn Eighe and secluded isles of Loch Maree are home to areas of untouched Caledonian forest. There are lovely places to eat out, such as "The Old Inn" of Gairloch and "The Creel" of Charleston. Seafood is of such quality that even the Queen bought a supply of lobsters here when on a recent cruise! It is rich in history too. Some of the many signs of early settlement incude the Sand archaeological trail, 1km from the doorstep of your property
Gairloch / Big Sand area
The world famous Inverewe Gardens, ten miles form your holiday home, is well worth a visit. Ullapool, gateway to the Outer Isles, is an hour's drive along the spectacular Wester Ross Coastal Trail. The trail passes the Corrieshalloch Gorge, a fascinating box canyon spanned by a new suspension bridge. Wildlife cruises with our local skipper and expert, Nick, are also highly recommended. Rare sea birds, seals, dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks and even whales are among sightings from the 'Kerry'. Boats are also available on some of the smaller hill lochs and Loch Maree for fishing excursions.
