The Scottish Highlands region
The Scottish Highlands include the rugged and mountainous regions of Scotland north and west of the Highland Boundary Fault. The Highlands are popularly described as one of the most scenic regions of Europe. The area is generally sparsely populated, with many mountain ranges dominating the region.
Gairloch (Geàrrloch in Gaelic) is a small village on the shores of Loch Gairloch on the Northwest coast of Scotland.
Fishermen will be pleased to hear that there is a choice of salmon, sea trout, brown trout, pike, and sea fishing. You can also take falconry courses, or go and visit the deer museum after some deerstalking! For the adventurous, there are plenty of opportunities for climbing, kayaking, pony trekking, whale-watching trips or even boat trips to view Viking graves on Loch Maree or the puffin colony on the Shiant Islands. Alternatively visit the famous Inverewe gardens.
The bungalow is situated in the quiet community of Melvaig, (near Gairloch), having its own bar and restaurant. The coastline around Melvaig and to the Lighthouse (approx. 4 miles) is rugged; a haven for nesting birds, seals, whales and otters. This wide open expanse offers magnificent sunsets.

"Breathtaking location (- if you like whale-watching from the sofa!)"
This is a beautiful, well-presented & fully-equipped cottage in the most stunning location imaginable - whether it's the private beach-access, the view (literally) over the sea to Skye or the occasional eagle-sighting from the kitchen-window you will not be disappointed. Whilst the cottage itself is as peaceful as possible the tiny village of Melvaig is home to a lovely, lively inn with log fires, fresh local produce and advice about basking-shark and otter-watching on tap.
You can drive into Gairloch past the vista of the Torridon mountains for a seafood dinner or head down the coast to walk along the seacliffs of Rua Reidh if you prefer peace and quiet - I'd recommend trying it all. The good news is if Raasay is booked her sister cottage Rona is equally impressive!
