The villa is set within a delightful vineyard, with magnificent views over surrounding countryside and hills in all directions. The villa itself is fantastic - well equipped, luxuriously decorated, brand new bathrooms throughout with rainwater showers, yet still authentic to the region. The journey down the dirt track for the last half mile is exciting, somewhat steep and winding - reminding one of a ski-run - but it all adds to the experience. The pool area is again completely new, with relined pool and retiled surroundings. The location is delightful, perfect if you want peace and tranquillity - there are three terraces on which to eat or relax, one with huge sun shade, one with sun umbrella and one next to the kitchen with a traditional loggia with shade provided by overhead plants. We were the first occupants after the refurbishment and the owners were concerned it was dusty, so arranged for their cleaner to attend daily, and provided a delightful huge hamper of fruit and prosecco - which was very welcome and a lovely surprise. The weather was stormy so we didn't even notice any dust. There are wild boar and deer in the forest surrounding which you can hear or see in the distance - neither causing any concern. Gaiole is about 5-10 minutes drive away, the restaurant at Castel Meleto, Fornace di Meleto, is just at the bottom of the hill, 3-4 minutes' drive away, where the traditional food is great, simple local recipes but well presented, beautifully presented with a really friendly and helpful staff. Overall we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the villa - we enjoyed it immensely.
